The map lights in my truck seem to be some type of sealed system. They are super dim and I thought it would be an easy change but when I took of the plastic piece, you can't even see the bulb. There is another piece of plastic covering the bulb that I am unable to take out unless I break it. I tried taking down the entire console, but couldn't get my hand in there to disconnect the wires. Any ideas on how to change these with that piece covering the bulb? Did they have sealed systems for these? It really shouldn't be this hard to change the bulbs.

I have the led map lights from the factory. I have one that alternates between dim and bright. I've tried to take them apart and no joy. I have forwarded the same video I used and then stopped.

That seems a bit excessive a procedure to change them. Guess I could break the little plastic tabs holding the 2nd layer in. That just shouldn't be the answer though. Thanks for responding. That is the first video I have seen of it.

Gonna have to melt the clips. That's where I stopped. Not really worth it to me.

I was trying to install red led, so I could run them at night.

Thanks. I do have the LED's. But they aren't very bright 99% of the time.
It's not very difficult to swap those proprietary lights out like in the video shown. Conversely, you can swap to the incandescent housing for lights and put LEDs in. If you do as the video above shows, you will loose the reflector and diffuser so the light might not cast so well.

You can sometimes find really cheap ones on ebay in poor shape and use them for the older reflector diffuser style housing (just swap parts over to yours)

I agree, it just becomes a Huge hassle when they could have made the housing a little bit different and this would not be an issue

I ended up getting a console with regular lights and changing them to LED. Much better. During the process I kept thinking....why do they make the damn wires so short that it is nearly impossible to get your hand in there. Thanks for all the advice and help fellas.
