Chrome Bumpers

So I have a 2017 Ram 1500, with the chrome front and rear bumpers. I am not a fan of the chrome anymore, and want to get black. Is there anyway to paint the chrome? or am I gonna have to buy all new bumpers.

They have primers that will etch into the chrome, then just paint em body color

If your addicted to modifying your truck, just think about wether or not you may grow to not like that bumper before you decide to paint it. I know I did. Lack of fog lights was the big factor for me. Some also like the ability to add a slim light bar as well.

I plastidipped mine to get by and after a little over a year I finally found Sport bumpers on CL for a good price. In the end, I was glad I never had the chrome bumpers painted.

See if you can find someone that has black bumpers who now wants chrome, and swap.

Chrome is beautiful, so many plastic, colored bumpers out there.

You could wrap them. Seems like 50/50 info on wether or not the paint will adhere to chrome. A lot of body shops wont paint chrome because they can't guarantee the work.

Do yourself a favor and take it from.me being that I had my chrome bumpers painted. .... Buy the plastic bumpers and have them done .. paint doesn't hold up on the chrome and will eventually chip off ...esp on the front. Painters won't honor a warranty on chrome. Not to mention they will eventually rust from the inside . I had mine painted and already swapped out the front with a sport bumper. Soon to do the rear.

You can also buy a non-chrome, paintable steel lower section to replace your chrome portion for cheap

I think that’s a plus for several reasons:

1) you can sell your chrome section and recoup some $ when you replace it

2) you won’t have to buy all the behind-the-cover parts to convert to a sport bumper. This makes it a cheaper and much easier swap

3) the steel lower portion painted body color looks better than sport but that just one’s opinions as I know there are many others out there

To be fair the only color I dislike the above pictured combo is on white trucks. I think it doesn’t look as good

But on the darker colors like your truck I think it’s my favorite front end look on a gen4 1500

I don't know if this still applies to Line-X, but they used to re-spray for free if it scraped or gouged off. That could be worth if for bumpers if that's still a thing or applies to bumpers covered in it.

It's so funny how subjective looks preferences are. I've always thought the nostril grill and projector headlights looks like that pug from "Men in Black". Especially the 2nd pic. I realize this discussion is focused on the bumper but I just needed to get that off my chest.

I asked a local body shop to color match my chrome bumpers and he refused. He said that every time they try and paint chrome it doesnt turn out right...
