I got a new ring and pinion for Chrysler 9.25, I know how to set backlash by adjusting the two threaded inserts on the sides and setting backlash to .006-.010” of play, the other measurement is pinion depth which is determined by shims, I keep playing with the system and setting it up and running it through mesh paint and adding or subtracting small shim sizes, this has gotten me close, here is the mesh pattern attached to this post, what do I need to do??? Is this mesh pattern due to incorrect pinion depth? And If so do I need to add or subtract shim thickness?? And if it’s backlash, what do you suspect I am doing wrong with setting that?? Also if it is pinion depth how much should I adjust it by? I’ve been adjusting it by .005 inches, should I go buy smaller shims?? Thank you for your help!! (First pic is slanted side of tooth and second photo is flat side of tooth)

This is what mine looked like. Still running good after a year and multiple burnouts... lol...

The shims in the Rebuild kits have all the sizes you need. Just go back and check your baseine #s and do the math.

Also make sure you use a pinion crush sleeve eliminator.

Just watch youtube videos, Its all explain verry well. I must of watch 30+ of them jeep ones are the best.

I tried the same shim thickness as the original shim first and here was my pattern, I thought this pattern was too much on the top of the tooth so I watched a YouTube video on how to fix this and it said to deepen pinion with shims does this look right to you?? It seems a little off compared to your pattern, thank you!

That’s a pretty decent looking pattern. As long as your backlash is good and everything is torqued properly it should be just fine.

I’ve done tons of diffs and I’ve seen some pretty iffy patterns be whisper quiet and run for years.

the wear pattern should be the same for any vehicle. just get it centered on the tooth as best you can until your happy with what it looks like.
im not sure about the chrysler 9.25 but the aam differentials have a specific sequence for tightening the side adjusters and of course a rotating torq so the bearings get loaded correct and a specific torq on the ring , bearing caps and adjuster locks.
i always recomend a service manual so you dont fumble through it making mistakes and have to tear into it again
