Hey all! I just got an 07 1500 Hemi in great shape with 170K miles on it. The truck drives great, 4x4 engages and works properly. Seemingly no issues at all. BUT occasionally the check engine light will come on. I went to AutoZone when it was lit. When they scanned it, the only code that came up was P0406.

I researched some and got a wide range of potential issues.

Has anyone gotten this code and just didn't do anything? If the truck is driving well, what's the harm in not addressing it?

Thoughts?

I would start with cleaning or replacing your egr valve and go from there, that’s seems to be the most common cause of the intermittent cel. Gl.

So I bought a Duralast EGR Valve at Autozone for $34. Found a great youtube video by A1 Auto and 30 mins later had it installed. No more CEL and it seems to idle better.

They don't last forever, especially if that was your 170,000 mile original one lol.

Luckily Autozone has a lifetime warranty and it's a quick fix. :)

Glad you got it fixed. I don't know about FL, but here in NY the CEL being on would cause the truck to fail the yearly state inspection, even if it appeared to be running fine.

Florida has NO emissions or inspections... Being from NY myself, it's pretty cool

Lifetime warranty, just like the alternator I have that needs to be replaced every one to two years.
It's a free when it goes out, but a pain to replace.
