I recently bought plugs and wires for my 05 ram hemi. This is the first hemi I have owned so I was shocked when I opened the msd box to find 8 wires lol obviously after looking into it I realized the coil packs have a boot on them, which makes sense.

My question is with 80,000 miles on the truck would you do just the plugs right now and buy the msd coil packs in a month or two when I can afford them then put those on with the wires, or would you do the plugs and wires now and ride it out? The truck hasn't given any codes I was just doing this as a maintenance thing.

Thanks for any insight guys!

If you want to replace the coils, the MSD's look nice, but they are just a stock replacement that dont offer any performance improvement. If you want to save a little money, you can get a set of stock coil packs for a little cheaper.

I wouldnt drop the money on the MSD ones unless you want just the look. At your miles I would suggest doing the coil wires along with the coil boots and plugs while your in there. The OEM coil packs are actually pretty dang good and wont give you alot of issues.

I agree..I have over 225k on the stock coil packs...I just change the plug wires every now an then... and nothing against msd wires but I've had misfire issues with them so I use Taylor's for upgrade replacements now..
