People say that there’s nothing like this for the 6.4 BTE( big truck engine) because the throttle body is at an angle towards the passenger side. I think an angle tube is all that would be needed in order to make it work.

Yeah that would take forever to make out of stainless. I'll just make a stainless intake tube. Haha

Don't make your own tube out any type of metal.....metal conducts heat from engine thus negating the term CAI.

If I could afford to buy one I’d find a way to make an adapter for it. I’m kinda thinking $$$ in my pocket. Even if it could be made outta pvc... 3D printer...

The shop that built my ywin turbo mustang (Barth Tuning) told me a long time ago that turbos recerculate exaust gas back to the turbo, then into the engine. Thats some pretty damn hot air. And they make tons of power. He also told me the difference between a plastic and metal intake tube is minimal in the aspect or horsepower loss. Ill take his word for it since they pay a guy to tig weld stainless intake tubes for 1400 HP dodge 6.4 motors.
Im gonna give it a try.

If you're going to build it out of Stainless, either get it ceramic coated or wrap it with header wrap to help keep the majority of heat out of the incoming air charge.

Forced induction & inter-coolers going to make some power, naturally aspirated engine requires different tweaks.

Wild one has a good idea with the thermal wrap.

I remember one of these debates came up years ago on another forum. Always back and forth, some people say the air thats being sucked through a metal cai, isnt in there long enough for it to heat "that much" to make a difference. Read your IAT's

Yeah ill have to get a quote and see if its reasonable I will do it. If its crazy high, ill just go without it. Im not really concerned with heat as much as the better flow from replacing the highly restrictive stock air hose.

Drag racers still use cool cans on aspirated engines?
Use to be like that years ago..... showing my age maybe.....lol

I opted for an aFe Momentum & held off on buying until after the Outlaw cat back & Pulsar. Very pleased w/ how it complimented the other mods, noticeable improvement throughout the curve. c55c3a21a9b1f22a3cc748b9837c105d.jpg

If I didn't have the Mopar CAI this would be my next choice

Just like a turbo charger piping. Im not buying into the heat theory

On cars that are making big numbers yeah guys still use ice, but it woukdnt make a big diffdrence on our trucks mild hp numbers.
The main gain of a cold air intake on vehicles is the replacement of the very restrictive air intake factory tube. Factory TB is designed to run with that restriction. Hence why putting z bigger TB on will complement the increased flow.

I was VERY happy with my oem box, aem drop in filter and 3"add a tube. Lots of pull with pedal comm, pulsar and fastman tb.
I swapped to a S&B, man what a difference!! monster filter(makes WAY more noise at wot than oem with add ons) wont stop pulling on top end. Excellently made, stout and solid

This looks good..... how’s the engine noise when you get on it? Is your a dry or oiled filter?

Its a oiled filter. In my quoted post i wrote waaay more engine noise at wot. The S&B has a massive filter and intake tube so can really hear the aor at wot. Normal driving no difference

Cool air makes more power....drag et times improve in the cooler weather....can't get more proof than that

Yeah i just cant justify spending that much on a cold air intake when the factory filter housing draws plenty of cfm with a good filter. But mind you, my motor has 120k on it. So i do not want to buy parts that cannot be ussd with a 6.4 and a blower down the road when it blows.

I keep hearing the vararam is the best. IMO it looks the best but does it really have an advantage I do mostly highway driving 120mi a day.

I commute 110/mi/day so I was looking for something to improve engine efficiency too. I had the MOPAR CAI installed at the dealership, so that they could perform the 'tune' required to allow the gains we keep hearing about. 3 fill-ups later and I've not experienced any efficiency gains. I use Fuelly to track my mileage, so no WAGs. The MDS is more tolerable at some of the shift points (I always found the resonance in the cab between 45mph-48mph to be obnoxious, so the point I'd turn off the MDS when cruising at/around those speeds). I also feel that it shifts smoother at speed. Plus the engine sound is awesome, but not sure it was worth the $500 for that level of awesome.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on the vararam. If anyone has one they don't need anymore I'll take it off your hands lol.
