I just bought a 1996 ram 1500 5.2 magnum with 77,000 original miles. I heard a rod knock and decided to change out the bearings befors it got worse. I removed all the bearings and seen that they were all toast as if it were ran with out oil. on the crank #'s 3&4 rod journals were groved so metal is in the oil now.
So i'm thinking about rebuilding the engine now. But I was told by a couple people that since the bearings lost metal that the oil took some up to the cam and lifters and a couple people told me that the cam gets its oil strait from the oil pump and would be filtered from the oil filter and that the crank has its flow strait in from one end of the crank and out the other end and doesnt share its oil flow with the can and lifters.
So, would it be worth rebuilding the engine with the chance that the crank didnt share its metal particals with the cam or just replacing the entire thing.
