I feel that way with 4wd and the gear shift knob. I still reach for a column shifter at times.Me personally, i mutter a prayer under my breath, pinch my left eye shut, then reach out and turn the knob, always pleasantly surprised when technology holds up in my presence....
NEVER use 4W LO above 5MPH....and when your running 4W HI make sure it is on wet pavement, snow, or dirt/mud.....
Not that you would want to intentionally, but you can and will be limited by the engine redline in 4X4 Low. If the difference is being stuck in the backwoods somewhere or getting on the throttle, I guess we know who will be calling for a tow truck or walking.NEVER use 4W LO above 5MPH.
There must be something up with your 4X4 actuator, should only take a one second push of the selector button then about 5 seconds to engage(the indicator light flashes while engaging). Going back and forth to the hunting property this past weekend, the truck shifted in and out of 4X4 Lock a good dozen times just as described. The push button switch absolutely sucks to shift into 4WD on the fly - it just does. You have to hold it too long and pray that it actually listens to you that you want to go into 4WD.

From my personal Experience 4 lock will only be locked when driving straight. It will Disengage In a corner or parking spot. There is no true 4 wheel lock on the 1500's with the 8 speed. I say 8 speed because that's what i had i can't speak for the 6 speed. I've never in over 100k had my 4 auto or 4 lock bind. Ever . The 1500 is not a 4 wheel true lock system.
FCA wanted to make the Auto 4X4 system "idiot proof" instead they ended up with is an AWD system.Got ya good info. I should of looked better at his first pic. I wonder why they didnt make the 4 lock with the 4 auto bind. Whats the point i didnt really notice a big difference between the 2 in my truck
