So the cruise control switch on my '94 broke recently. I checked my local salvage yard for weeks and finally found one but unfortunately the buttons broke off when I tried to clean it.

My question is does anyone know if the 96-97 3-button switch will work in place of the 94-95 4-button switch? I can find those all day long, but nobody makes a new 4-button and it was only used for 2 years on the Ram and Dakota. The 3-button version is much more common and is available everywhere. I know it's missing a pin on the connector but I have no idea how the signal for on/off changes between the two. I tried looking at wiring diagrams but I'm not certain of what I am seeing. Looks like maybe 96+ the switch talks to the pcm whereas the 94-95 talks to a separate module. Can anyone confirm?

Anyone got anything on this? I have tried looking at the wiring diagrams but I'm still confused on whether or not it will work. Surely someone has broken one of these non-existent switches before

Never had this happen but have you googled how to fix it or looked on ebay for a cruise control switch for sale.

The problem is the tabs on the back of the buttons break off. They mount to the main shell and pivot on the same spot and the 25+ year old thin plastic just breaks. I have been looking on ebay off and on for months and every once in a while I will call local junk yards but I haven't had any luck yet. The one I mentioned in my first post was a lucky hit at a local pick-n-pull. I guess I may just have to buy the later 3-button version and try it. Just didn't want to waste the money on a paper weight.

Understand. I'm sure a parts store wouldn't be any help may try a dealership but since it's more than 10 years old probably no help there either. Most 2nd rams around my area are daily driven most of them are 98-02. I'll keep an eye out for a 94-97 ram parts truck to try and help.

Also I think the Dakota's used the same switch might be easier to find one of those trucks

Yep, the Dakota used the same one. Funny thing is the 4 button and 3 button were both 2 years only. Everything went to the 2 separate switches from 98 and up. I guess the 4 button is harder to find because it's older?

Well it looks like somebody just listed 5 or 6 of the 4 button switches on ebay in the last week, lol! Can't believe I just paid $100 for a used interior switch for a 26 year old dodge truck:wtf:
