I have a custom 91 HF tune (using 91 gas) and wanted to see what other peoples thoughts are on using it while towing or hot summer days.

Last summer I did notice that I would see ST knock once the air temperature started to increase during the summer(90-110 degrees) (ST around 3-6 while driving around under normal conditions and normally when the engine bogged down *wasn't trying to bog it down but just happens)

So I started to run his custom 89 tune while running 91 gas in the summers and also while towing just to be safe (helped the ST but still was seeing some 1-3 ST). Is this necessary or is it fine to get some ST while driving and just let the truck compensate for it?

I also tried different brands of 91 gas and it didn't seem to make much of a difference. Seems to be the hotter the intake air temps get the more ST knock.

I asked Sean and he said it was fine to run the 91 tune while towing and also in the summers and the tune will compensate for it but also wanted to see other peoples opinions and experience.

Thanks!

if its showing knock on a 91 tune with 91 fuel in it then either your fuel is no good or there is too much timing in it. the warmer it gets the more prone to knock.try a 170 stat and get the fan settings changed

I tried all kind of different fuels and it didn’t help. I already run a 180 and even had the efan set to 190.

Are people really seeing zero knock during hot days under normal driving? I feel like that is impossible. **** I was seeing knock when running the stock tune and running 91 gas!

Note: I did not do a wot test but I would bet I still see some knock but not as high as when the engine bogs down.

i would return to stock with the highest grade gas you can find and run about a half a tank through it. if it persists then you may have an issue thats not tune related. i got some bad gas a year or so ago that played hell with my 93 tune and it took about 3 tanks to clear it out it could be that also but it wouldnt knock on the stock tune
