Got a pic of the scoop, where it mounts to the mesh grille? That is so badass! I'd like to try to duplicate it, but I need to put a mesh grille in the lower bumper facia first.

Nice! Did you buy that mesh grille? And where? It's Awesome! I was thinking I'd have to make my own, like on the 05.

made it my self cut around the edge with a razor knife cut real easy and i used black gutter guard epoxyed it to the frame and then hit it with black paint it almost looks metal lol

Very nice!!! You have inspired me to do this mod!! My Volant CAI has the port in the bottom just waiting for a ramair duct to be hooked up.

Have you ever had your K&N get wet? We have some large muddles on some of the back roads, and I was wondering if it may scoop water into the intake?

I was wondering the same thing. I would not even try to cross any water in that truck (like flooded roadways), since it looks like it could easily suck it up.

You could go with an Outerwears cover to keep the filter from getting wet during normal rain & driving, but it wouldn't help you if a slug of water gets sucked up.

I had what they call a "BHAF" on my 97 12v. It is basically a 20" diam x 16" long regular paper air filter ( I think it was for the external canister filters you see on semi trucks), that when we put it on my friends flow bench, flowed well over 1200 cfm. Anyway, it was completely exposed to any water that could get in the engine compartment, so I used an outerwears to keep it nice and dry, and never had any issues with it getting wet.

BTW I'm assuming a muddle is slang for a mud puddle ??????

Thinking about it now, if the normal suction (thru the fender) for that setup is still intact and functional, then it shouldn't be able to 'suck' any water up, as once the slug of water got in the tube, it's own weight should force the suction to switch to the normal path, and the water should fall back out. This won't help with rain mist, but it should prevent you from drowning your engine. I would still get an outerwears cover for the filter to make sure rain mist doesn't soak it.

I would think, as you stated, the water would fall back down. That water would have to have some crazy velocity to make it all the way up that channel. And as a fail-safe, you could put some kind of mesh screen in the toilet flange to block almost all the water.

I really dont drive her through puddles lol but ya it would have to be going pretty fast to get up there been in some really bad rain storms and no problems. Also if you do it and you want to go mudding they also sell drain blocks at home depot you could stick in in it while you do it

Drove through a pouring down rain storm doing like 65-70 for almost an hour filter and tube up by the housing were still bone dry

Only way it would do it is if the normal air flow path was blocked off, and you got enough water to completely block off the tube, then the suction from the engine would keep it moving on up. The velocity of the water don't matter, it's the suction from the engine that does.

And trust me, I've seen plenty of cars with home made & aftermarket CAI kits like yours that HAVE suckd up water and hydrolocked their engines from driving thru standing water

IDK... My Volant draws air from the fender and through the port and it looks like his K&N was designed to pull air from the fender as well. I can't imagine the engine pulling so much air that it would draw that much water as long as the fender was clear. Am I missing something??
