Hi I have a 2013 ram 1500 5.7 hemi. The cylinder 1 coil pack keeps on literally exploding an ends up cracking in half. I’ve done like 3 ecm’s done all the packs an plugs. An still can’t figure it out? Any idea what it could be?

Weird, those build amperage and then deliver it, so usually they can take a lot of volts, but I can't imagine anything but it is getting to many volts, and I say weird because they can take a lot of volts. Has to be ignition switch would be my guess.

That coil pack will get hot way before any others. I have some photos I’m just currently at work.

2013 still has a TIPM but I do not know what functions they do as they did less and less until they discoed them. I know in some rams TIPM would fry fuel sending units as it would send amps even when truck was shut off, another thing to look into. Maybe bypass ignition switch? Or check and see if it is getting a charge when truck is off due to TIPM.

When these fails it is usually in the middle of the TIPM, you need a new TIPM or fix it or bypass it, if this is the issue and I'm not sure it is. Usually you can't just replace the relay fuse, these fail within the connections in the TIPM box. You can use a cig lighter relay to operate the ignition, this prevents it from gaining amps when truck if OFF.

You can easily bypass it just for fun, something to do on the weekend, see if it helps. This is for fuel pump, just find out if your TIPM has an ignition relay.

I don't know what a "TIPM" is but I get the impression that it controls the coil packs on your truck. I can see the coil packs failing if they get juice when the ignition switch is off. Heat would inevitably build up in the pack since it never discharges and cause it to fail.

That's my theory.

I'd try to get a voltmeter on the coil pack. Check to see if it's getting juice with the ignition off. Compare the readings with the other coil packs.

TIPM = fca fuse box, unlike old fuse boxes it is soldered inside the box, when those points fail, it either sends juice when not wanted, or sends no juice when wanted, or flickers inbetween. There is a dyi on how to fix tipm, but it isn't for everyone.
