I regretfully have 3.21 gears paired with the 6 speed transmission. Since adding 35" tires is pretty awful, especially compared to my old 8 speed with 32" tires.

I'm curious what would be a better gear ratio for me, I'm looking for more grunt off the line and a quicker 1/4 mile gear as I plan to eventually run a 32 or 33" tire. I also travel around 70mph for extended period of time for work so I cannot sacrifice too much. I'm leaning towards the 4.56's. What do you guys think? Matt, I'm sure youve got experience with both?

If I did it again I would probably do 3.92 or 4.10. The 4.56 are beast but they do mess up sweet fuel economy in the highway. The sweet spot might be 3.92 or 4.10. The 4.56 are beast though if you don't do a ton of 70+ highway.

What tire size are you running?

I have run both on multiple trucks. The 4.56 is without a doubt going to give you more power off the line and a quicker 1/4 mile time. Fuel mileage is going to drop about 2mpg at 70mph and about 3mpg at 80+mph.

If the mileage drop is too much, then the 4.10 is a great balance of power and mileage.

4.10s with stockish 32/33. That's what I have. I have no clue why that was not a factory option. I don't do long road trips in the truck, usually. I have a V6 Mustang for that. I did haul a motorcycle 3 hours north of me last summer, all kinds of different conditions. My truck did 19.6. I was happy with that. I also have heavier than stock tires, and a 2" front end lift. So even with everything I have going against me, the truck still does pretty good.

4.56s if you're going to keep the 35s. You're going to just bite the bullet on gas mileage. That's the price for looking cool. If you drive slow, that helps a lot.

These guys that claim they get good gas mileage while going 70+ mph.."..... I don't believe it for a second.

If I ever trade trucks, I'm getting the 8/3.92.

Thanks for the opinion guys. Probably just bite the bullet on 4.56 as my employer does pay for my fuel.

All about CAFE that sticker has to look good and be good or they have to find another way to reach the goal by buying the credits etc.

While we're on the topic. What gear oil did you guys use with the install? Did you add friction modifier? Break in process, did you take it easy or did you lay it down immediately lol

Use conventional to break in the process is at Randy's ring and pinion site. Change out early.

I had the LS installed at the same time as the gears. The dealership did the work, so, whatever they put in! The limited slip does work. I'd imagine they put the right thing in.

I did the break in because Matt told me to. Which doesn't make any sense to me because I didn't do that when the truck was new. But I did it any way. Mine are perfectly silent. Gears are the best thing I did for that truck.

I am a firm believer in driving slow for good fuel economy. I proved it to myself again this weekend.
