My 2020 1500 just had a paint correction done last week, i picked it up from the dealer yesterday and they decided to give it a complimentary wash... WITH A DAMN BRUSH! This was explained multiple times to the service advisor that the truck had just had a paint correction and to please be careful around the body panels so I am trying to get them to pay.

All of that aside I'm just wondering if i should wait or if I can have another paint correction done right away? The truck is black so there are super noticeable swirl marks and scratches everywhere now.

They was every veh with a wash brush just the same as any other dealer. Wash my veh all the time with a brush with no issue.

1) I'm sure your dealer loves seeing you walk through the door.
2) I have done far, far worse things to my paint and you wouldn't have any idea, I highly doubt their brush made it look like they just hit it with an angle grinder. If anything maybe they just did a poor job of washing as you are seeing streaks.
3) If by some miracle they did leave small scratches in the clear, a very light buff job would be enough to even it out. No need for a "paint correction."

The amount of correction needed will determine the product used for the correction. The thickness of the paint should also be measured before any correction is made. The owner's budget is also a consideration. Automated car washes are called "Tunnels of Destruction" for good reason!!!

A Chevrolet dealer I use offers a free car wash with any service.

They have a low quality, drive through wash with brushes. They park the vehicle outside while wet, in the sun.

I tape a note on the dash stating, Do Not Wash” when I drop it off.

I’ve never had them wash the vehicle.

When dealers talk about "detailing," it scares me to death. Most dealers do not have the proper equipment or the properly trained techs to do a proper detail. They will leave swirl marks on your paint, scratch your paint, and most likely want to sell you some type of "protection package" that is nothing more than a cheap spray wax. People who believe an automated car wash with swirling brushes does not leave micro scratches in the paint need to have their eyes checked. Your money, your truck, take care of it the way you wish. Rant over!

To those posting that it can't be a big deal, you are wrong. Lots of things can mark paint. I don't think the OP is talking about a soft, handheld camel hair brush. Pretty sure he is talking about one of the beater bar auto washes. I never use anything but a wand wash, touchless or hand wash because I want my paint to look good decades later.

OP - Find a good detailer, and stick with them. I would definitely be pushing to have the dealer pay for the second buff.

When I read "brush", I was assuming hand wash with a small hand held brush. If by "brush" OP is referring to an auto machine wash, yes that is a different story. Perhaps OP can elaborate.

I know for a fact there have been dealerships that in their wash areas have a big pail of soap and water.... for the day. So as the day goes on the soapy water sure gets dirtier, as does the brush or mitt used. So swirls can be created. And these services are usually where they hire the teenager looking for a job. Not that all teenagers are bad, just most will come in and just do the job without questioning. "Shouldn't we change the soap & water after every wash?"

BINGO!!!! Even a grit guard at the bottom of the bucket would be better than nothing.

To the OP. They can paint correct it again without issue. Why would you have a dealer do a paint correction on your truck?
Did they do body work, and have to spray paint it?
Where there scratches there before the paint correction?

1 A good paint correction starts with a good wash with dish soap to get any old wax off.
2 A clay bar to get the contamination's off the paint.
3 Use a high grit polishing compound to get the swirls, scratches out of the clear coat.
4 If it is a two step or three step correction they may use higher and higher grits to get them out.
5 A good wax should be applied, or a ceramic coat to protect the paint

There should be reason to wash the truck afterwords.

At my dealer the service department has no control over the detail shop. When I buy a new truck from them, I ask for it not to be washed, just sprayed off and any decals etc removed. I do a walk around with the sales person, and point out any issues. If they need to fix them I have them fixed. If there are no issues found I take the vehicle home spray it down with Jax Wax Iron de-Con. Let it cure then wash it off. I then do the steps above to finish the detail.

This process takes a bit of clear coat off each time, like sanding wood. After a while it will take the clear coat off, depending on the thickness of the clear coat.

This thread is a good reminder to NEVER buy another black vehicle..... :smoke2:

I said the same thing until my wife said I want that one. The sales person I use laughed and said how l would love the color. He knows I keep my vehicles clean. I did a full detail in my garage. Brought it back two days later to show the sales person how it should look. He was impressed with it and said let me see it in a month. A pressure washer and a soap cannon make fast work to keep it up.

Her next vehicle will not be black, or I will teach her to keep it up.

They look great when they are clean.

LOL, yes, yes, yes, I agree...... but........ virtually impossible to keep clean. The tiniest bit of dirt or dust makes them 'dirty'. And the spider webs and swirls issues mean you have to be a skilled detailer to polish them correctly.

Only ever owned 2 black vehicles, both bought real cheap because they looked terrible. I detailed them, cleaned them up real good, fixed some minor mechanical issues and flipped them for over double what I paid.

Good flip candidates, would never own one long term.

To answer all of your questions. It was used, I bought it recently, they sent it to a 3rd party to have it paint corrected before it was purchased.
I then brought it back for service about a week later to have some work done that was promised as a part of the deal because their shop was backed up at the time of purchase.
Part of this was a full interior detail and the salesman knew that the paint correction had been done prior to sale and said he would make sure they didn't touch the outside.
Obviously he didn't do his part and service didn't do theirs.

Aside from that thank you for the great information, I understand how clear coat works to an extent i just didn't know if it might be in a weakened state or if I needed to wait awhile before having another correction done given that it was done recently.
That I know of it's probably the first time it's had a paint correction so the thickness of the clear should still be pretty good.

To all the guys who think it's no issue I take pride in things I worked hard to obtain. I like my vehicles paint to look good whether it's my work truck or my wife's VW that hasn't seen a tool and probably never will in it's lifespan!

I have a black truck and I wash it 2-3 times a year....mostly to get the salt and road grime off it in the spring. It still looks fine to me after almost 9 years. I do notice when I see a vehicle that has been super detailed.....it looks great but the first drive on wet roads it looks alot like mine. I guess it just comes done to what you want to spend your time/energy doing.

@Pull Ya: Good to see you in the thread. Hope all is well for you down South of me.

I do not ever let my dealership wash truck, unless it was like take to a Brushless Facility, which they do not have. I NEVA run my truck through a brush type wash. Even the auto ones. You never know what has been picked up by the brushes from previous washed vehicles and end up all ingrained on your ride. I only do hand held spray washes, once in a blue moon brushless or by hand.

Caveat: My Flame Red not quite as bad as a Black in color truck, but it is bad enuf.
