It seems an odd thing to lie about in this case.
Yeah, agreed.... I'm now remembering a while back while looking at some used cars and the Carfax docs show service history at dealers and some indy shops. I think there are some service dept. workers here sometimes and maybe they can shed some light on how it works.

On another Ram site, the one with a Z at the end ....

There was a TECH, that worked on Chrysler/FCA vehicles.
He worked at a dealership in Johnson City, Tennessee.
He was a Horse Equestrian in his spare time.
He would answer almost every question, that came up & no one else answered.

Another Member on that site, could tell you the date that your Ram or Jeep Factory Order would show up at your dealership.

The Tech was sensitive about his job.
He only asked the members of that particular Forum, to not bad mouth him or his dealership.

some members just could not abide by that simple request.
They referred every dealership as a steal er ship.
That Tech left that forum, because of the Slurs

It seems an odd thing to lie about in this case. He said he was calling the other dealer to get the records sent over, so it's not like he's saying he can't find out or there's any advantage to remaining ignorant.

Maybe it's one of those stupid for the customer but internally logical for the business things. Each dealership franchise is their own independent business licensed by Ram. Independent businesses may not want to share information with competitors, but do have to share with the licensing entity. Or maybe they make money on sharing the data with places like CarFax and don't want to give it out for free, I have no idea how that works.
I know first hand they can see records from another dealership, that is how my servicing dealer found out another dealer used my vin for a recall on another truck with a vin number close to mine, so saying they can't is very odd in deed

He said they can see warranty work, but not service records (oil changes, that sort of thing)

Well, they are going to tear it down and see what the issue is. They dropped the pan and didn't see any issue but think it's the clutch for gear 4 and maybe 5. Guess maybe the lifetime warranty will finally pay off, they'll either rebuild or replace with new depending on the cost.

As someone who works at a dealer thats a load of **** Lol. I would run far from that dealer however if they put a trans in it for nothing just have it checked over when its done by another dealer and or shop to make sure it was done right.

My dealer was also able to see and showed me the service records of the oil and fuel filter changes listed under my vin by another dealership

Well, good info. No idea why he can't, or is claiming he can't. Doesn't make a bit of difference in this case.

seems that i read that when 4th Gear locks IN,
isn't that when after X amount of miles, the Transmission Quits ?

I recall when my 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 HEMI was right at the 100,000 miles mark.
I drove to a dealership way back East in Danbury Connecticut

They asked up front if i had a 100,000 miles service done

So some dealership's DO care
but, that was before Covid

Curious, was that dealership in the same 'group', like same overall ownership?

Also wondering if this is a subscription sort of thing. I don't think he's lying about it, but it's a small dealership in a small town where he (my son) happened to be working at the time.

If I think about it, I'll ask at my usual dealership next time I'm there. Which I hope isn't soon. :D

4th Gear LIMP MODE

No, not stuck in 4th. Slipping when going into 4th, like a worn clutch.

No the dealership they were able see who listed service work about my truck was in another state, the last time my dealer showed me service records of the other dealership was about 6 months ago...

Edit: now that I'm home from vacation, I found photo's from my dealer showing me that another dealer was using my vin for another truck

@RamCares

What's a reasonable time to decide rebuild/replace for a transmission? Last week I was told it would take a day or two. Today I was told it would take a day or two since Ram asked for more info from the dealership.

9 days between communications.

@RamCares

So your warranties are now administered by a 3rd party that won't make preauthorization decisions by phone for any dollar amount? Indian call center? 4-5 requests for more information to make a decision and then bottom of the queue again each time?

I just did a joint call with the dealership and the warranty company, and still no decision at the 3 week point. I've worked my way from the service advisor to the service manager to the general manager and have exhausted my options at the dealership and your warranty admin company is functionally useless. You've not bothered to respond, so I don't have high hopes from you either.

Is David McDonald the correct person to contact about this next?

Seems Kuniskis return won't be sufficient to save them.

Well, I will say this experience saved me a lot of money. We were looking to replace my wife's car with a leftover new 2024 Wrangler Rubicon, but she's decided she doesn't want to deal with it any longer because "they are a headache". No problem for me.
