It used to be that every car got a nameplate and manufacturer plate or lettering. That was it. Badges and stickers are all about marketing and differentiation branding. It's gotten so out of hand because, to most folks, a truck is a truck. As my wife said, they all look alike. Hell all cars look alike. So lets stick on badges for brand, nameplate, option package, engine, drivetrain and we get to let everybody know what you've bought. I blame it all on the pony cars of the 60s.... every upgraded engine got a badge. Mustang High Output 5.0 Cherokee 4.0 4WD High Output, RAM 5.7 Hemi, ETorque, etc etc. ITS NUTS. No wonder folks have gotten sick of it.
I'd love to know what my Dad would think of all this. He's been gone 15 years. I remember him insisting that the dealer check off the DELETE Chrome trim package on the 1969 Lincoln Continental Mark III he ordered. When the car showed up with chrome trim he refused delivery until Ford removed it properly without damaging the paint. He was an attorney with a contract that said no trim. Heritage Ford Lincoln Mercury was a dealership to despise. A few years later they got indicted for fraud.
