I know we have some member's who detail cars on here. Could you recommend what pads I should use and what kind of compound/polish I should use? I think I am looking towards purchasing a Porter Cable 7424 since its swirl free friendly. I want to fully polish out my truck. The overall paint is in great condition, and this is something I'd like to invest in.

The pads and polishes really depends on how bad your paint is. Look at your paint, clean paint, in bright sunlight or using halogen light. You will see a lot more swirls than you thought were there.

The PC is a really nice machine. I use a 3 step polishing process for the worst of paints. If your paint is in decent shape, you can get away with 2 or 1 step.

Adam sells Severe Swirl Remover for really swirled paint. Adam's Swirl & Haze is great for that 6 month polishing on your DD. Adam's Fine Machine Polish is a must and gives your paint the depth you are looking for.

Do not forget to clay the paint first. If you have any impurities in your paint, you will be wasting time polishing. The impurities can scratch your paint when polishing and they will clog your pads.

Most people start with this kit:

Adam's Complete Porter Cable 7424xp Polisher Kit

Take a look at Adam's Polishes. He has a bunch of kits and the larger the kit, the more money you will save. I throw in FREE stuff with most kits and can tailor kits to your needs. If you want to swap items in the kits, or remove items, I can do that!

I was really new to using a machine to polish/wax my vehicles until last spring. I bought the Porter Cable 7424xp kit from Adam's and I really found it really easy and rewarding to get a great finished product. Follow the videos on the Adam's site or get a DVD from Eric! Highly recommended!!

Adams kits run $250-350+, I can buy the PC online for $120 shipped. And I know I could get pads and the correct polishing liquids for another $100.

Am I really saving money compared to the final goal I want to achieve by buying a kit?

And my paint isn't bad, but I will start with a green cutting pad to be safe, appx how many uses can I get out of single pad?

Price it all out with the liquids, pads, pc, and shipping. Plus all the "freebies" Eric throws in. And then decide. I bought my setup from Adam's because when it was all said and done, it was a better deal.

you're not gonna find adams polishes/waxes and pads for $100. get the adams stuff -- you wont regret it. it lasts a LONG time (years)

The starter kit is a great deal for sure

They're right. I've used other pads and polishes and they don't last as long as Adam's. You bought a Ram, not a Dakota. If ya pay a little more, you get a better quality product.

I give basically the best prices you'll find on the Adam's Products. Adam would probably kick my butt if he knew what I sell his stuff for! That said, I'll help you out any way I can. Don't wait til June, that's mid car season. You'll be kicking yourself.

I can do a pretty sick deal for you to get you into the game. PM sent.

I think I may wait till next season to buy myself a buffer. Till then, when I go to have body work done on my rear door, I will have shadow quote me on buffing out my entire truck.
