So I just purchased the TopDon Topscan (from Amazon) after a friend of my son used it on my 2016, 1500! I had the dreaded P0456 fault code that my son’s basic reader showed and cleared. It came back but I’ll not go into that here. Anyway, this scan tool, TopDon Topscan, is so damn impressive I bought one. Its on sale now through black friday for $54, normally almost $90 it says but I know Amazon inflates prices at “sale times”. I cant recommend more strongly to anyone as far as Im concerned. This scans pretty much ANY MODEL vehicle, does not vin lock on anything so you can use it on anyones vehicle. It is blue tooth, you have to down load an app called TopGuru but that was free-so far. This thing can do WAY MORE than I could tell you right now as Im no mechanic but there are several video reviews on this on google/youtube and the ones Ive watched so far have all been impressively positive. Im NO EXPERT in this field, mind you, and recieve absolutely nothing for posting this except maybe some happiness if this might help any of you out there looking for a good scanner tool like this. I think even our experts on here would be impressed with this given the low cost compared to what it can do. It can also do live diagnostics of performance, etc, check it out for yourself! I, personally, am very excited for this.

Note: My fault, P0456, did come back, I replaced the gas cap (after reading some post here, for now and reset). Should it come back this tool will actually tell me exactly, or damn close to, what is faulty my son’s friend told me. The fault hasn't come back yet. This damn thing also found one of my speakers is inop! I have the Pioneer system so I didnt hear, notice the passenger door speaker not working and I’ll bet it was out when I bought the truck almost 2 years ago! Which also points out, you could bring this with you if youre looking at a used vehicle and see, Id think, almost anything that might be wrong with the vehicle?

Tip: Go back a few pages on the forum (or do a search). There was a looong post on 'Gas Cap Pergatory' not long ago that would be good to read ...might give you a lot of suggestions real quick, ...if you haven't read it.

IDK about the scanner model you bought, but the upper-range TopDon models with bi-directional control seem to do almost the level of a Snap-on scanner. And the software updates are MUCH more reasonable. Scan tools have gotten to be pretty good for less $$ (free in some cases) for phone and tablet...and even reasonable lower-cost hand-held devices. Good feedback!

I did look around but I searched the forum by that fault code. So if it came up under that I believe I did read it? I know I read something about “gas cap” and it not resolving the fault so they moved on to the vent or something like that. If my fault returns Im confident this scanner will pin point it so Im not chasing it. Id LOVE to trust the dealership but I just cant through experience. Plus Id like to learn and do more things myself!
