Changed the diffs this weekend and was going to make the little guage others have talked about to make sure the level is below the fill hole and at the mark on the cover then looked at the owners manual. 1/4" +/- 1/4 below the fill hole....or in layman's terms it is OK to be flush with the fill hole.

When I did my diffs I just filled until it started feeling out the fill hole. Then jusy got a paper towel and stuck it in to soak up a little extra.

No issues here.

1/4 + 1/4 is 0 to 1/2" so level with the hole is good.

I put in refilled the quantity stated by the OEM instead of fooling around with the level business. The nominal amounts were 4.0 qts for rear, 2.0 qts for front.

There - done.

When I removed the plug from my cover fluid started leaking out. The factory must have filled it slightly past the hole. My truck has 21,000 miles.
