Im swapping out to 3.92 gears. Ordered a front diff with the 3.92 gears already installed. Ordered 3.92 gears for the rear and noticed they sent 3.90 instead. Was told that it wouldnt affect anything considering they are so close in ratio. Whats your guys thoughts.

You are allowed 5% i Beleive it is up and down without any adverse affects. Any more you'll feel like your pushing ur front end and dragging or pulling yourself apart. And you shouldn't always driving on hard surfaces in 4x4 so a little but of push or pull won't be noticeable or harmful.

I will be launching in 4wd until i can budget the core 4x4 control arms for the wheel hop issue

Ok that I wouldn't be recomended. Like @Burla said send it back last thing you want is a high traction blow up and then have the company you bought it from saying it's your fault because they told you to use the wrong gear. If it was gravel or mud I'd say no worries but 4x4 launches on dry pavement I'd want things a little more matched and accurate.

Are you lowered? If you are you'd be better off with Inez's relocation brackets, which will bring your Instant center back to where it intersects under the truck instead of 4ft in the ground in front of the rear tires. The bars are only a band-aid for a lowered truck, the proper way is bring both bars back to as close to parallel with the ground and frame as possible, that way they actually push the frame ahead instead of up

If they are 3.90 ratio and not 3.92 they are probably Yukon’s, they are trash. Buy OEM or Nitro gears, they are 3:92 ratio.

The 3.90 gears have fewer teeth on the pinion, they are absolutely a inferior product. Pure garbage.

Yukon did not stand behind their products, they said it was poor break in. I have had modified Jeep’s my whole life, I have never burned up a front or rear gear set.

2 sets of Yukon gears burned up

2 sets of nitro gears ran flawlessly

How are the nitro gears? I’m currently looking at 4:56 set for my 2011. $1000 for the set shipped to my door.

Nitro 4.56 gears have been in my 2014 for nearly 2 years.......no issues.....suppose to have less noise than the other aftermarket gears but I can't hear for tires & exhaust.......LoL

Do you physically have both gear sets in hand? Count the teeth. Do the math. Maybe.... just maybe, the manufacturer of the 3.90 set rounded the number off?
