I've always used black RTV on diff covers. Gaskets leak!

Black permatex, and IF you want a gasket it's for a Chrysler 9.25 inch, make sure to use the friction modifier if you have a LSD. Some use it even if the oil says it already has it, just to further quiet things up, but with the RP fluid you don't need it.

I also use the black RTF sometimes I use the "Right Stuff" it is even easier. I have never had a leak with this method. Gaskets that are reusable have failed me the one time I tried it.

The Best stuff I use is the Mopar Gear Sealant (RTV Type Black) . Since RTV alone is prone to leakge IMO, I always make my Own Gaskets using a Mopar Gasket (Yep they exist) as My Jigg Pattern But that is not necessary, you can use the Cover and a black lab marker. A Roll of felpro goes a long way and all you need is a set of gasket hole Punches. My Diff never leaks at the rear, and soon I will try the channeled groove o-ring type gasket offered with the Magnatec set-up!

The Trick is to let the RTV set=up for at least an hour before adding the new Fluid, 2 hours even better!

Yes, let it skin over slightly and then bolt up the cover.

Clean clean and reclean the mating surfaces too. Brake clean works well.
