Read a few different DIY and read in my Hanes manual for changing the thermostat in my 01,360, 4x4 and wanted to ask you guys that have done it.

Is it difficult or just time consuming?? I'm essentially your weekend mechcanic that can do such things as fluid changes, suspensions lifts, spark plugs, wires and csp but im by no means a real mechcanic!

Called a local shop and they told me about $130 plus tax for new thermostat. Said it would be about 1.5 hrs of labor

Fairly easy. Pull belt, unbolt and flip over the a/c and alternator. I don't even think you need to take the bracket off. BOOM. T-stat.

If i have a shop flush the whole cooling system, I should do this t stat change before I have them flush it correct? I was going to flush it myself then found out they will do it for $95 and they have a machine that flushes it, they don't cute the rad hose and out a T in.

Or have em flush first then change t stat when I get time?

If you're gonna have a shop jack with it, just cough up the extra cash and let them change the t-stat.

I would be very willing to cough up the extra $150 if I didn't just cough up $2700 for the trans :(

Decided I'm going to replace the t stat and t stat housing myself. Only want to do this job once, anyone recommend a certain t stat manufacture??

Honestly, there are too many out there.

Try a regular Stant stat. Not a SuperStat and definitely not a FailSafe.

I honestly don't remember what's good anymore as it seems to change every 6 months.

Choices are: Acdelco, motorad, stant, stant premium, Gates

Stant premium a winner?
