Anyone know the specs on the 4th gen differentials? like who makes them? I'm assuming Dana maybe but not sure. I know I have 3.55's and no LSD, but I'd like to look at some options if I knew what LSD to buy based on the type of diffs..

Any info appreciated, thanks in advance!

PS: I have a 2014 express, not sure if that helps..

you shouldve gotten it with LSD when you bought it. Gonna spend WAY more on swapping it out than if you had looked for a truck with LSD

Dang they cost that much? I remember looking for a locker back about 7 years ago for my ranger. It was only around a few hundred bucks

Depends on what you get. I got my locker for under 500 but it's a cheaper 'lunchbox' automatic locker. If you look at ox I believe they run over 1,000.. Man do I wish I had one of them bad boys

As far as who makes ours I have no idea but would like to know. I would think the 1/2 tons would be compatible to a dana 44.. At least for the rear

The rear axle is a Chrysler 9.25. To my knowledge, Ox doesn't make a locker for it. Even if they did, I wouldn't go with them as cable adjustment is known to be a problem which prevents the locker engaging and disengaging like it should. A better option in the selectable category is an ARB (air powered) or the Auburn Ected (electric) but those are moot as they aren't available for our axle either.

As for limited slips, the Detroit Truetrac is available and is a gear type which is far superior to the clutch type. While the price isn't too bad ($500ish), it is a full case replacement so a professional would have to set it up likely costing a few hundred more. However it would give great performance for a daily driven truck that doesn't see hard offroad use.

Unfortunately, Ram switched to the 9.25ZF axle in 2011-up trucks, and there is not an aftermarket limited slip unit available for this axle yet. Your only option for any form of limited slip is to get the factory unit from Dodge. These run about $600 +/-.

Differential is different, ring gear is different, and axle shafts are different. There are not even any aftermarket ring/pinion kits available for this axle either. Only option for gears are the factory gears or to have your carrier machined to accept an aftermarket ring gear. Dodge really made this difficult for the newer trucks.

There is nothing wrong with the 9.25ZF axle aside from the fact that there is just no aftermarket support for it. I have yet to see a 4th gen truck blow up the factory limited slip unit, so I don't see a problem with its strength. The issue is just that for the guys that do not have a factory limited slip or 3.92 gear, you are going to have to pay a good chunk of money to add these factory upgrades. Factory limited slip unit runs around $600, factory 3.92's are $400 (or $700 for the factory 4.10's), and then you need a new install kit as well.

So the ZF is different than the other 9.25? I thought I read the axle was essentially the same? I haven't actually torn into mine yet though seeing as it's only a week old. All my experience comes from Jeeps...

I've even seen ads listing the Powertrax all the way up to current models.

Yea it is a tad bit different, and as stated above they do not make any direct replacement parts, we have found with a lot of our customers that instead of swapping the whole rear axle it is much more cost efficient to have it machine to accept the new carrier bolt. We have also found that it is best to send our customers who are having it professionally done to Jeep shops VS your traditional 4x4 shop that does everything as they tend to be more experienced with gear swaps and a lot of times (at least around here and up in the Great White North) can do the machine work in house which gives even more savings as they do not have to out source it :)

When you are ready to do them gears reach out to us we work with them everyday and have contacts all over the place if you need help finding a shop I am sure we could assist you.

Thanks
Jeremiah

My truck is a 14 with open differential and 3.55s
I wanted lsd and 4.56s.
So I coughed up $885 for a new carrier and all the necessary machine work.
And another $200 for the gears.
Still have to buy an install kit.
But all said and done I will have a solid $1200 into just my rear gear swap and that's with ME doing the install.
I wish I could just leave **** alone sometimes...
