Good morning, Question, is it possible to permanently display what gear the trans is in and when it shifts?
Thank-you. I can feel it up to 5th. After that I can only tell by the tach. Nick

Thank-you. I was hoping I could set it up to be active all the time.

I'm not aware of a way to do this permanently either, but I'm interested to know if it is possible. Not sure if a 3rd party tuner / software would allow you to do it? I know you can use those to disable MDS (which I associate to the "manual" shift mode described above).

On the MY 2019, U can set display to show what gear trans in, and also to the right of that will show What Manual Gear U set if U so choose. Not sure on earlier years. That may depend upon trim level.

Yes, being able to see what gear you are in is new to the 2019 RAM 1500.

No one with the 2019 HD can get it to display either.

Using the +/- on 4th Gen shows you what gear you selected. But the transmission will still down shift into a lower gear, and not show you the gear.

Say you use +/- to go to 6th to deactivate MDS. The transmission will still downshift all the way to 1st without changing the number 6.

If you select 4th...it will not up shift to 5 or 6, it will still down shift to 3 2 or 1.

These are 2 things I wish my RAM did. Stay in the selected gear. No downshift or upshift. And would show current gear.

I have not found a way to view current gear without going in the manual mode. I've searched and searched.

You can use an app like Torque pro on your phone or tablet to get information such as current gear. I use mine to view commanded gear, current gear, and torque converter lock status. You may have to find the correct PIDs for you vehicle since not all are preloaded.
Not sure this solution is great for just wanting to see current gear, it's a bit over kill but if you want to monitor several things it works great.

My 2015 1500 with a premium cluster will show the current gear the truck is actually in and also the gear I have manually selected. This is only visible once I have selected a gear in "manual mode", no way to make it persistent.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I believe on the 5th Gen it is all the time. But I could be wrong, as I didn't know the 4th Gen did it at all.

My 2013 didn't have that feature (when it manual mode, it just showed the gear I selected, not the one I was currently in). My current 17 does show both, not sure what year they changed that feature but it was nice to see as I wasn't aware of that change prior to buying my 17 either.

What is the PID you used to see the current gear?

What is the PID you used to see the current gear?

It's a PID I did research on and was able to come up with a custom equation to make it work, it's not a pre-defined one. With that said this is for a 2500 with a 68RFE so not sure it will work on a 1500 with a different transmission?

PID: 22a09f
Long Name: Transmission Gear Actual
Short Name: Actual
Min: 0
Max: 6
unit: Gear
Equation: Lookup(B::0='PARK':255='REV')

And for your other question, I've never seen a PID to display tire pressure. I can view mine on the EVIC so not something I ever looked into either.
