My first Ram new (2008) I paid 1100$ for the extended warranty and never needed it. My second Ram (2011) I paid 2000$ for the extended and the truck was written off before it even got halfway through the warranty and insurance doesn't replace add-ons like that. Third and fourth rams I did not pay for the warranty and am glad I didn't. Both of those trucks had basically 0 issues the EXTENDED warranty would have covered within the period it covers. Both of those trucks also had multiple electrical\gremlin style failures a few thousand out of what would have been the extended warranty period so I would have been out the cost of the warranty and still had issues to fix on my own, I'm glad I saved the money. Anecdotally a friend of mine bought a 2025 warlock a few weeks ago and told me the dealer wanted nearly 4k (Canadian $) for the extended warranty and I think that is absolute insanity and would never pay that much for an extended. Just my 0.02 though.

Looking at buying a new 2025 Laramie and wondering what others think of buying an additional warranty at time of purchase? They come with 3 year, 36,000 miles. I didn’t buy anything additional when we bought my wife’s new Chevy Traverse and not looking to if I buy this new 2025 Laramie. But curious of others thoughts.

When I bought by 2014 new the guy in finance started telling me how these things run forever and was not uncommon to go well over 200,000 miles and then in the next breath started pushing their extended warranties. Really irritated me. I never had any issue with my 2014 for over 10 years. Anyway do you buy anything additional at the time of purchase or do something later or how do you approach it?

I always buy an extended warranty for my cars now BUT NOT AT THE DEALERSHIP at time of purchase. The dealer price is always a ripoff and a big money maker for the finance guy. If you don’t think so check out how quickly they drop the price after your first refusal. I always tell them I’ll buy a FACTORY warranty online later. Their famous lie is it will be a used car warranty once you leave the dealership. I got an 8 year warranty $100 deductible 85,000 mile Maximum Care MOPAR for my 2018 RAM 1500 online for over $1000 less than dealer “special.” What’s nice about the extended warranty the are TRANSFERABLE to whoever may buy the truck from you. In my case it’s only $50 to transfer. Imagine if say after 5 yrs you want to sell the next guy gets a full blown warranty for 3 years. It’s a great incentive for the buyer.

Just like the sale of the vehicle the price is negotiable or at least it has been in the past.
Finance guy said 4000 I said 2500. He said no and I walked out. Then he said yes to 2500.
Get familiar with the terms exclusive and inclusive.
Exclusive is much better.
The sum of all my 2 cent knowledge computes the best extended warranty is the fidelity platinum Exclusive.
I've personally never heard of an unhappy customer. Of the 3 I've purchased I've always lost money.
Casino always wins, results vary.

Paid $2400 for lifetime maxicare the day I picked up the truck in 2012. Didn’t really need it until cam/lifter failure. Now, it is the only reason I don’t modify my truck or get a new one. I don’t know what lifetime means but I will see this out.

I plan on keeping my 22 model for six years. I bought three extra years of Mopar maximum care warranty. It comes out to $48 a month for the extra three years of factory warranty. If I never use it fine, but $48 a month is cheap insurance. I looked online at warranty prices and at the time of purchase when the F&I guy brought up the extended warranty, I showed him the online price and said I would rather buy the warranty from him if he matched the price and he did. I have a good dealer, I bought the truck from them, I bought the extended warranty from them and I get it serviced there, so I feel confident that if I have a problem, they will stand by me.

I purchased max care when I got my 21 limited. I’ve used it a couple times. Just got my rear shocks replaced for the $100 deductible.

but if I get the HEMI tick it’s going in before 100k
Good luck if it's just a tick..... I swear, if the vehicle is not on fire and moves at all they say there's nothing wrong.

If it starts ticking and they deny you make sure to document EVERYTHING so if/when it leads to a failure you have a better case.

After my first tranny rebuild it shifted horrible but generally functioned. They wouldn't do anything else so I just ran with it and it eventually failed again (I wasn't surprised) and they rebuilt it again but it was better the second time. I'm pretty sure FCA dealers get bonuses for denying warranty repairs. :)

I bought one just because of all the electronics on the new trucks. Just the screen that controls almost everything in the truck is a couple grand. Also at least in Florida if you don’t use the warranty you get the money back at the end of the term or if you sell or wreck the truck. I just found that out.

The warranty worked out for me. I purchased an extended warranty when I bought a new 2018 1500 Laramie. I negotiated the price and it only added a few dollars to my payments. It paid for itself when the radio screen delaminated and an entire system was installed.

If you do I would only consider The Chrysler #Warranty direct choices. Before my 36,000 mile mark I bought the seven year unlimited mileage warranty which pays for everything the MaxCare warranty does for the life of my payments.

The Finance guy only makes commission pay on the loan and extras like extended contracts, They are a huge profit for the dealer. If you want a extended contract ask for a better price then they offer or get it somewhere else. Th Finance guy is one of the highest earners at the dealership. I was in the bus for 23 years.

To Bob E I live in florida also and would love to know the source of your info that if you don't use the warranty or wreck your vehicle or sell the vehicle you get your money back.

I have heard of some that will refund your money if you dont use it at all by the end of the 7 years but those warranties also cost 2-3 times the price of a normal one

We put the longest bumper to bumper on our 2016 RAM 1500 REBEL because of the four corner air ride suspension. I was sold the moment I drove it but a bit of research showed that the system was not engineered for our -40C winters.

We went through two compressors ($2,700 each job), multiple bleeds ($800 per job), and a few other issues. The LSD replacement was a $3,600 job. So, in our case the warranty paid for itself.

Oh, and the software. Yeah, bumper to bumper covers all firmware updates for those poorly coded software based components like our very sickly cruise control module.

The software updates alone are worth the cost of entry for a 6 or 7 year bumper to bumper. The electronic components are also a liability.

The A/C condenser v2 is moderately better than the v1 which we went through two though I haven't bothered with the second replacement because I don't use the A/C and the truck has 225K KMs on it now.

Yeah, it's worth it. ;-)

Many people don't believe in purchasing an extended service contract which is what your are considering, it's not extended warranty. Service contracts are nothing more than an insurance policy that you buy to protect yourself from a catastrophic failure that would be your responsibility to pay. I have owned 2 Rams, both with Ecodiesels and I purchased service contracts on both of them. My 2016 Ram was used when I bought it and I immediately bought a service contract through the Mopar website and fortunately it paid for itself within the first 6 months I owned it. I had and EGR cooler failure and at that time it was not covered by the 36,000/36month basic coverage. It fell under the Emissions warranty which was only 24,000/24month coverage. My service contract covered the repair less my $100 deductible. The repair would have cost me somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000 I'm guessing. The 2020 Limited I own was new and again I went onto the Mopar website when I was close to 36,000 miles and bought the 125,000/8year contract. Around 40,000 miles my 12 inch electronic display module failed. The repair was covered minus my $200 deductible. I did some research and the module alone cost a little over $1500 plus whatever the labor may have been. The cost of my service contract was $3900 so it hasn't paid for itself yet, but with the complicated technology in these vehicles along with the high price of repair parts I'm guessing by the time my vehicle reaches the 125,000 mark I will probably have an A/C failure, air suspension, or some other failure that would not normally be covered. At least I have the peace of mind that if a major failure occurs, it will only cost my deductible.

No, I did not. I rarely buy extended warranty for anything I buy (not just vehicles). And have never needed it. Vehicles are so reliable these days that to me, it's not worth the money. You will always be able to find/hear of some horror stories but even asking around with your neighbors, I'm sure you will find it rare that anyone would have had a failure where they wished they had the extended warranty. Think about it. If it were common that a vehicle was failing within the extended warranty period, the cost would be much, much higher. It's like cards. The dealer always wins.

I have never bought an extended warranty until my 2019 Ram, I tend to keep my vehicle over 10 years. When I bought my 2019 Ram I got the lifetime Maxcare only because they had the lifetime option. It has more than paid for its self. Like everyone has said, the dealer's price was crazy high, I found the best price at Clay Robins.

I got one for my '21 power wagon because it covers oil changes, which need to be done anyway and it almost covers the cost of it if I do them regularly.plus while they have the truck they check it over, brake pads, front end,all the things I can't check without it being up on a hoist.I'm lucky I have a decent dealer.

Bumper to bumper is the ONLY warranty to get. Power train warranty is a huge scam. And bs
