I have another trip into the megalopolis of Phoenix next Wednesday and I have 4 appointments. To be sure I make it to each one, I have given myself extra time but one never knows what can happen out there.

Does the navigation system on the Ram have what may be called "optimized routes" which will navigate me around any delays in traffic that it sees, but I can not? If it does have such a feature, how do I enable it?

Thanks in advance!

Is your truck subscribed to Sirius XM with Travel Link? If so, the factory nav will show live traffic flow on your routes, and will adjust arrival times based on the current traffic. If not, then the factory nav will still route everything fine, but the arrival times won’t be accurate because it can’t take into account the current traffic situations (rush hour, accidents, etc).

Otherwise, just use one of the map apps on your phone displayed on the radio screen via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Those maps will always account for current travel times with current traffic conditions.

If you have an Apple phone download the Apple Carplay app and use it for your navigation.

Same for Android Auto if you have an Android phone. I use Android Auto with Google Maps Directions and I always get advanced notice of slowdowns, jams, police activity and breakdowns on my route. Then I can make a decision to stay the course or to find an alternate route which Google Maps will suggest automatically in the case of a large slowdown or traffic jam.

I'm always having to drive into the Phoenix area from Apache Junction and have found Android Auto with Google Maps very very helpful.

There is no app for CarPlay to download. It’s part of every iPhone and since Ram supports CarPlay already the interface is already present in the infotainment system.

I'm very glad you posted.

How do I access this CarPlay interface? It is important for me that when I am in route guidance to a new location appointment that I have eyes free alerts of congested/ stopped traffic with audio redirect to a route to avoid them. In using the navigation on the Ram I've had for over 5 years I've never seen this feature.

It’s as simple as plugging in your iPhone into the USB port below the screen. If a message shows up on your phone asking to Allow CarPlay while locked choose allow and your done. It will also ask to download and sync your phone contacts. Choose allow so you will have all of your contacts accessible via CarPlay. That’s it. Apple Support has a You Tube channel if you need it. Here is a link explaining how to get connected.
