Hey Guys -

I've torn out the dash and gotten all of the wiring done. However, I have run into the issue that the double din doesn't fit through the plastic housing. It is literally too small by centimeters. Again, I'm talking about the plastic housing at the front - I haven't even made it to the metal bracket behind it. Is there a way around this as everyone is telling me this radio will fit? Do I snip the plastic or what? Also, is it normal to have rusting on the bracket like shown in a 2010 truck?:Stupid Me:

If you did trim the actual plastic housing, what did you use to do it?

Last question - while I had the new HU plugged in testing it, I received a phone call and my phone connected to the UConnect system. Is there a way to disable the UConnect system or should I just set my phone to forget it. I thought it was odd that it worked without the factory radio in.

You will have to cut the plastic sides where it changes from black to tan, and then you may have to trim off the top lip by a few centimetres, that parts important if you want you "Dodge" tray thing to stay in.

goodluck with the metal bracket! haha

I could be wrong since I haven't put it in all the way (thats what she said), but it doesn't look like I need to trim the side black/tan pieces. It just appears that I have to shave the top plastic piece. I'm going to use a dremel I suppose. I'm going to then try tin snips and cut the top of the inner metal bracket.

I used my Dremel to cut the metal, too. I had to trim some of the plastic lip if I remember correctly.

I used a dremel with a sanding wheel to be precise. The cutting disks will spin so fast the plastic will melt and cause a mess thus making it harder to cut. I cut the top of the metal bracket off. At the corners of the top of it, it is pretty thin and used a cutting disk on my dremel and used pliers to bend around the entire piece to get my double din to fit. Hope this helps

I have seen no ill effect to doing anything of this. Although I installed an aftermarket double din with metra install kit to finish it off.

Ok I need help. I got the unit fully installed, everything grinded down and looking great. I tested the unit, everything worked. I mounted the unit and attached the dash - head unit doesn't work now.

I removed everything and plugged in the factory radio. Factory radio works.

While removing the harness I noticed that from the CHTO-03 one of the two Ignition/Switched (12V+) lines had the butt splice come off of it and was exposed against a piece of metal. Now...this was the SECOND and spare line that I hadn't plugged into anything (I think). Anyways...now I am getting nothing through the new head unit...it won't even power on.

Any ideas or solutions to fix this? I checked all the fuses and they are fine??? Is it possible the CHTO-03 short circuited?

Well...had them bench test the harness...turns out the harness blew when the wire touched the metal and grounded out...stupid mistake. Got that and the bypass came today so I'm installing both tomorrow and going to hopefully have everything working!

Anyone have a guide on where or how to run a bluetooth line so that it comes out of the ceiling?

Finally all done! Have the unit installed and it is awesome. Not to mention it makes the system sound worlds better than the factory unit. A few pics, plus an extra sticker that just came in. Sorry for quality, iPhone shots. The visible wire is for my dash light. :flipthebird:

Thanks again for the help. I did mine slightly different. I use a dremel and trimmed the plastic on the top only. If you feel the plastic, you will see that it actually curves backwards and doubles itself at the lip. I trimmed that off and it worked fine and I could still use the screw slots up top to mount the dash back on as I got nowhere even close to them. I then cut the interior metal bracket same way you did. Also, I didn't have to cut the bottom plastic at all.

I then ran the bluetooth mic wire through the headliner, down the A pillar and through the dash to the HU. The Metra brackets were an extremely tight fit, but I just put a thin knife blade on each side as I popped the dash back on and it all fit and slid into place perfectly. It opens up and has full motion as well.

Just an FYI...I did purchase the micro-bypass since the new 2013 Pioneer radios have pulse e-brake detection too which sucks but it was extremely easy to wire the relay into the HU.

Thanks again for the advice!
