Thinking about removing the clutch fan from my 2017 1500 5.7l. From searching this site it sounds like the Efan in the later year 4th gens in good enough and you don’t need to get the V6 Efan? Just want to verify this is true. Also Im confused if I need a tuner for the stock fan to come on at the right temps or am I ok just removing the clutch fan. I rarely tow and it’s mostly a daily driver with some light off-roading. Thanks

you and I seem to be on a similar mod path. The e-fan mod requires a tuner to change the fan settings. I'm seeing quite a few run just the AC fan without replacing the clutch fan.

Yes you will need a tuner and for a 2017 you will need an unlocked PCM for the tuner to work. It also depends on what you're going to be doing with your truck. If you're going to be towing a lot, you may want to leave the clutch fan on or go with the V6 efan...

if you dont tune for it then taking the clutch fan off is useless and a 170 stat is recomended when doing the fan delete. of course without a tune your wasting time with any of it.

Thanks for the quick replies. I was gonna save for a tuner and just remove the fan clutch in the meantime. Guess it can wait until I get the tuner

I think the same thing. I like the idea, but no cash for a tuner until after other mods are done

Do you know if there’s any issues with just removing it? Guess I could always just do trial and error but trying to save the time of taking it off just to put it back in because of overheating lol

Actually this is the time of year to test that out unless you live in Florida or Arizona or some other place that's warm. It doesn't cost anything to try and if it begins to over heat, put the AC on which will kick the efan on and cool enough to get you home

Been thinking about the efan switch as well. Mmathw or shadowhawk, have you two tried taking out the clutch fan? Any issues so far?
