Anyone ever get an emission research letter in the mail recently? I’ve gotten one and asking if i would be interested to participate in an emission study on my truck. They state they would provide me with a loaner and will approximate put on 100 miles on my truck for research purposes including them picking up my truck and return it back to me after a week. I never had gotten anything like this before, I’ve been driving dodge and ram trucks since ‘91, find it strange

That sounds like the scammiest of scams, and even if it happened to be legit what's the incentive to let strangers manhandle your truck for 100 miles?

All the auto companies are required to do long term testing of emissions systems. I've seen the ones FCA/Stellantis sent out for both the EcoDiesel and Cummins trucks along with ones from Ford for F-150 and SUVs.
They've both offered up a couple hundred bucks to use your vehicle along with providing a comparable loaner.
Good thing is if you live in Michigan the the testing facilities are close.

I worked for an independent automotive proving ground for many years that did emissions dyno testing, and they had an on-site federal division that did emissions studies also. It was not unusual for the federal government to send out this type of requests for various different reasons (not just emissions, but sometimes safety factors). Emissions testing is generally done on a dyno in a lab environment, and usually not "hammering" on the vehicle. Typically replicating a normal drive cycle.
Obviously I would doing a little background checking to make sure it's legit, but again it's not that unusual.
