Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel
Hi. I have run into some challenges passing the emissions testing. I have a 2013, 2500, Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel. The truck is in excellent condition. A few months back, warranty work was done. The mobile team flashed a module, and new problems arose. After a few visits to the local dodge dealer, 2 more modules were flashed. All of the erroneous alarms (tires and stability), and things like the interior lights always staying on - were all corrected.

Now, I cannot pass emission after 3 attempts.

I have been told: drive it 3 times for at least 15 mins. Drive for 50 miles. Drive for 80 miles. Drive for at least 130 miles.

I bought a bluetooth OBD scanner so I could try and see the reported states, as I did the drives.

4 codes will not change from incomplete to complete, they are....

NMHC Catalyst
NOx/SCR Monitor
Exhaust Gas Sensor
PM filter monitor

It is the same 4 that the emission test facility keep producing a "rejected" on my truck.

Is there are definitive mileage number that must be achieved before the onboard computer will change the above status codes to complete?

Is there something else wrong with the computers?

The truck?

Thank you for any and all advice.

If I had millions to spend on diesel fuel, I would keep driving.

If you are still under warranty, let the dealer deal with it.

It’s a 2013 doubt it’s under warranty. I’d get away from the dealer and find a reputable diesel shop and have them look at it. I “think” the 13’s had issues and was a problem child. Somebody with more knowledge I’m sure will chime in. But my first advice and advice I follow for myself if it’s not under warranty get away from the dealers and find a good shop.

There’s nothing the dealer, or any other shop for that matter, can do. The monitors simply aren’t ready yet.
@Wismer, do you have your own scan tool that you can check on those monitors with? Does your state allow like 1 or 2 to not be ready in order to pass? The only thing you can do is keep driving it. Try a lot of mixed driving. And, for god sakes, don’t disconnect the batteries or let them die.

Thank you so much! Yes, I have a scan tool, and will monitor as I drive. I will report back when the codes all change state to complete.

Hi. After nearly 600 miles and 18 hours, I am down to the last monitor to change state to "ready". Does anyone know a repeatable procedure to force the PM Filter Monitor status to Complete/Ready? The person on the emissions test hotline stated that there have been situations where this monitor has taken 5000+ miles to change state to 'complete'. I did find a Dodge service bulletin on emissions, but it did not specifically apply to my 2500, 2013 Ram with the 6.7L turbo. I followed the bulletin's procedure, but it did not force the desoot event. I did read a new blog clip this morning that suggested travelling at 18 to 37 mph @2000 rpm, for 15 to 20 minutes - but have not tried this procedure yet.. Thanks for any thoughts.

Have you tried towing something, and making your engine work?
