I am going to replace the engine and trans with 170000 on it. I want to replace my MDS engine with a VVT engine. Do I need to replace my computer for this option?

Unless your truck is older then 2008,you already have a 5.7 equipped with both VVT (variable valve timing) and MDS (multi-displacement system). They are 2 totally differant systems.VVT advances and ******* the camshaft in relation to engine rpm, while MDS basically shuts down cylinders by collasping the lifters. That's a basic laymans explanation, but if you're doing an engine swap on a 1500 newer then 08 ,your original engine has both systems.
