I have a 2001 Dodge ram magnum, V 6, 3.9 L, 1500 , auto, WS.
195,000 miles
Transmission replaced at 190,000 miles
I would like to replace the anti-freeze, it has the standard green IAT coolant in it.
Should i keep with the green stuff or can I upgrade?
I have some test strips coming and will be checking it soon.
In July of 2019 I did a back-flush with new green coolant and a new thermostat ( mostly because I couldn't get enough heat in the cab, it didn't improve any )
Now my dash is falling apart. Thinking about replacing it, also thinking about a heater core replacement.
The hoses may be original, along with the radiator, no leaks and i don't lose coolant.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. I do as much of my own maintenance as possible, as I don't trust most garages, but mostly because I'm so old & CHEEP.... LOL

Not really sure that there's any coolant that I would consider an "upgrade" unless you are in some high performance scenario. I've always run the cheap green stuff in my 2500 and provided my water pump doesn't off itself again I've never had an issue with actual cooling capacity.

IAT the worse, needs flushing every two years, anything is better. The issue is it doesn't mix well with all coolants that are now ethylene glycol. You have to flush it to hell and back, take out t stat flush, even run a RMI 25 flush with just water for a while, flush the hell out of heater core. And then yes you can run on of the lifetime coolants, pure ethylene glycol like peak global life. At it's core same thing as Mopar ten year. The alternative is to add an RMI 25 strategy with your current iat coolant. Just stay away from dex, anything that comes in an orange just avoid.

If you do the new heater core route, perfect time to move over PGL.
