Hey all,

I have a 2017 1500 w/ 5.7 @ 60k miles and was just messing around in the torque app and noticed that it had stated that I had 3 misfires in cylinder 8 in this/last run. It also had 1 misfire in one or two other cylinders but it said it was in the last 10 engine cycles.

Is this normal or something I should be concerned about? There is no code being thrown and I don't notice any rough idle or anything.

Any help is appreciated.

Any misfire should be a concern. Obviously the worse the misfire the harder it is on your engine. The question becomes whether it’s air, fuel, or spark causing the misfire? You could have just gotten a tank of bad gas? Or it could be a sign of spark plugs fouling out or an ignition coil going bad? It could be fuel injector(s) going bad/clogging as well?? Try running a tank of 91 or higher octane with Seafoam in the gas tank and see what happens. Seafoam has fixed a lot of little issues for me in the past and it’s easier than taking spark plugs out. Especially since it didn’t throw a code that turned the check engine light on.

I have noticed it before as 1 in the last 10 engine cycles but didn't think anything of it. I usually run a bottle of redline sl1 at least once near the end of my OCIs.

Also, I wanted to note in running Redline 5w30 with an RP filter if that helps. My last UOI didn't show any issue other than maybe a slightly higher than average iron content and a little higher than average calcium level.

Oil has nothing to do with misfires unless you were driving an import and using either super thick or thin oil that wasn't exactly what the manufacturer calls for. These trucks aren't bothered by oil weight as much. At least not enough to throw a misfire code. I've never heard of Redline SL1, so I can't speak to how good or bad or helpful it really is. After having worked on cars professionally for years, I've learned that Seafoam is a Godsend when it comes to minor misfires that might be fuel related as opposed to ignition related. Otherwise, my next move would be to have the ignition coil tested and pull both cylinder #8 spark plugs and that's not the funnest job in the world to do and pouring Seafoam in with the highest octane gas for 1 tank and driving is a hell of a lot easier to do. Just my $.02 and experience unless you get lucky and somehow the ignition coil connector is just a little loose or got some dirt inside of it somehow. I try to start with the easiest things first and then start digging into the harder/more technical things. Your plugs won't show much sign of wear as they're rated for 100K miles (not that I ever let them go that far, but that's me only!) so it will be hard to diagnose them unless they're either super white or super dark. The other thing you could do is to go through your scanner and check your oxygen sensor, knock sensor, look at your timing, or check your other sensors for odd readings in hopes of finding another symptom that might be causing the timing or air/fuel mixture to be off.

Hi PumpkinStealer,

Sounds like you may be working on this yourself but if you end up going into the dealer, let us know. We'd be glad to help with that process and escalate to a case specialist for further handling.

I saw this in both the free OBDLink app as well as the torque app. Couldn't find it in alfaobd but then again I didn't look too hard .

Same here, I found it in OBDLink and Torque. I poked around Alfa for about 10 mins yesterday looking for it and I couldn't find it in there...
