Last week I noticed the engine was making a ticking / tapping sound. Seems like it is coming from the drivers side of the engine. The truck had always made a tapping sound on first startup that would go away fairly quickly, but this is different and doesn't go away.
When I first noticed this new ticking I checked the oil to find it was 1.5 quarts low. I filled it up and still the ticking remains. The sound is constant, doesn't go away with a load on the engine, doesn't go away depending on temp.
The truck also now stumbles on acceleration when the engine is cold, but runs normally after its warmed up. No stalls or anything else out of the ordinary.
P1391 code is present, but I can't see how a bad cam sensor would cause a constant ticking.
Oil pump, timing chain, lifters?
The only recent work to the truck was changing the spark plugs.
Any ideas?
Thanks
