Need some help...got in the truck this morning and it started right up. Moved it to the middle of the drive way and turned it off, not happy with location so tried to turn it on again. Hit the start button first and then the brake instead of brake and then push button...then she sh*t the bed. Instrument panel needles started clicking and moving back and forth, could hear a relay under the hood clicking. Of course did not start at that point. Disconnected battery and let it sit for 15min. Came back hooked up battery tried again...dash turns on radio works, press brake then start button...nothing but instrument panel clicking. I did check voltage on battery after this attempt. Was reading 7 something volts and climbing. Topped out at 12.7v. Hooked up the old chevy and tried to jump the Dodge-didn't work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...Hating the thought of a new battery. Thanks in advance guys...meanwhile I am still searching the forum.

"7 volts and climbing" begs the question: what were you using to check it? Also, if a pair of probes, were they on the posts, rather than on the cable ends? If on the cables, then you need to check at the posts. If you get good, solid readings, the terminals need to be cleaned/brightened up.

So did hooking up the Chevy do anything at all different. Could your starter be shorting to ground? When you turn the key to engage it (or push the button?) it draws heavy on the battery and kills it. Also like hotrod says above, definitely check the cables.

I was using a multi-meter at the post. Yea was odd that the voltage was so low and climbing...never seen anything like that before. Took the terminals off the battery both looked good and clean.

Yea, when I hooked the chevy to it voltage was hitting around 13.47v...lights were on acc position got all my lights on the dash to run and the radio was working...same result when hitting the start button though.

"At the post" suggests you had the positive on the battery post, but the negative on something grounded, but not the negative post. That would account for the meter finding its way on through the ground. If both probes were on the posts, it suggests maybe a sulfated battery. Minimum, it probably needs to be charged and load tested. Short path: replace it. It's about five years old and it isn't going to improve.

yea, had both leads on respective posts...I appreciate all the feed back. Yea, I know the battery is the original in that '14...so weird that it fired up just fine, turned it off and tried to start again and it stopped working.

I helped a lady with a 2015 wrangler, she pulled into the gas station, shut it off, filled it up then it wouldn’t start. Was a bad battery. Who knows maybe one cell is bad and causing ur havoc.

so charged the battery most of the day...hooked it up and all I hear is some noise under the fuse box under the hood...no light on the dash, no radio and cant get into acc mode much less run. Looks like might be calling a tow truck to take her to the dealer.

You said you had lights when you jumped it so that tells me the battery cell or cells have shorted because you have charged battery all day & have no lights.
You need to have battery load tested.....you can charge battery all day long but if cell is bad it will not have necessary amps for truck.

A battery will be the same price asa tow, just replace the battery. Even if it’s not the culprit it’s on its way out anyway at 5 years
