I went down to my local exhaust shop and told em what I wanted (deep roar, no glass pack sound at WOT, and to push more air out than before), and they hooked me up with a Flowmaster super 40. I went single 3" in pipe in, with dual 2.5" out. I believe they just started behind the Catalytic converter. I have the s&b intake on so I wanted to make sure I'm pushing enough air out to put it to good use, I'm not completely convinced that's happening. Any help would be appreciated, I have 2 weeks to get it changed if I need to.

Flowmaster is known for sound, not performance. They are chambered and restrict airflow. What you want for performance is a straight through muffler like a Magnaflow, Corsa, or Borla.

He told me that with Magnaflow, I will get that "cackle" or glasspack sound. How much truth is there to this? Will running single in to dual out hurt performance?

Depends on the size of the Magnaflow, but even the 14" doesn't CACKLE like a glass pack bullet muffler. The 18 or 24" sound nice and smooth.

Flowmasters sound great IMO, but drone like mad, rust out (made of steel) and don't flow as well as Magnaflow.

Here's a 14"

I am confused, what is Mufflex vs Magnaflow? Are they the same thing? Also I have behind the wheel duals, will this affect the sound?

How does the single in / dual out affect my airflow? Are these videos I am watching all single mufflex mufflers? Thanks for all the help guys!

I'm sorry! Yes, Mufflex uses a Magnaflow muffler adds some tubing onto it and it becomes a plug and play muffler. Remove stock, install Mufflex. It's a VERY nice way to get a louder exhaust without cutting up the stock stainless tubing.

I only posted it so you could hear the muffler on an otherwise stock system. Without resonators it will be louder.

The Mufflex I posted was single in, dual out.

Oh ok! Got it! So as far as in front of the muffler, what should be done up there? Just new headers? I like the sound of the 14" 12198 muffler.

You can replace the Y pipe with a Magnaflow one which gets rid of a restriction, and headers are always good fun, but IMO, headers are useless unless you can tune for them, which you can.

Get with Matt at Moes on a new throttle body as well.

I went with the 14" magnaflow, it sounds great and I already got better throttle response from it, much happier with it than the Flowmaster, even if I lost a little sound. I don't get a drone in the cab until I hit about 81 mph, which is good reason to go the speed limit lol.

They are going to compliment the intake and exhaust very nicely. From there, I would start looking into a Superchips tuner, or maybe go through Hemifever on a custom tune with Diablo. That will help tie in all the airflow mods and really bring the truck to life.

You read my mind! I have been looking more and more in to the custom tuning, but I am extremely cautious because I am scared I will destroy the stock internals (Cams, pistons, headers, drive train, rear end) by giving it too much power and riding it too hard. Is this a legitimate fear?

Its not a problem as long as you use a reputable tuner. Hemifever has tuned hundreds of hemi trucks, so there is nothing to worry about. He was 1 of the first to start writing custom tunes for these trucks when the option was first available, so he is the most experienced tuner you can use.

Why do you recommend a Superchips tuner over like a DS Trinity? Or a BullyDog? I see that it seems like most people go with one of those 2. Thanks for all your help!

On the 03-10 trucks, Superchips has been the most user friendly and best performing tuner aside from having a custom tune written for your truck. That is where Hemifever comes in. If you want the custom tune, then getting a Diablo from Hemifever is the way to go. If you want to keep things simple, then you cant beat a Superchips Flashpaq.

I have had both the magnaflow 14 and 18 inch mufflers, they do sound good, but from my experience you lose a little on the low end, but gain in the top end. The only flowmaster that truly works on the hemi motor is the 50 series hd muffler that's specifically designed for the hemi trucks. Larger body and inlet pipe. the 10, 40, super 44 and others are just to small and do restrict flow as the guys said. my highest eta before was around 96.3mph, my best with the 50 series is 98.6. The drone issue can be solved by going with a diablo tuner or custom tune to where you can deactivate mds and run on all 8 cylinders and won't have to worry about the change in sound when it kicks into 4 cylinder mode.
