Hi all,

So I've been to trying to find what I felt like would be a fair deal on my muffler swap. I've called 7 shops all local and 1 big chain, 3 of them said they only do bolt on I'm like seriously and you advertise doing exhaust... The other 4 I took the truck buy for measurements and pricing I keep getting prices of 500-550 installed which sounds very high to me compared to what others have stated in the forums for install. I know mine maybe slightly more because of one extra part a y adapter because the muffler I want is single in single out, so its an extra weld/labor but the parts make up $170 there's nothing special to speak of underneath that I can see that justifies the extra $330. So my question is this am I missing something, does that seem normal costwise for what I'm asking for?

One shop did tell me to order the parts and bring them in and he would see what they could do, so I have ordered my parts with hopes... I also pulled the trigger on buying the parts because I don't see that as preventing me from getting it done elsewhere if that doesn't pan out. And that leads me to my next question/reason for the thread. For the prices I've been quoted I could go to my local shop and pickup a flux welder, helmet and gloves and give it a go myself. My only experience with welding was a very limited experience (like 2hrs) with stick welding, heavy plate steel some 25yrs ago that and there was someone around that new better telling me things. If I opted this route I'd be going on youtube to see how to teach yourself to weld videos etc. I also don't know if you can weld with the parts in place or if you need to drop the exhaust system to keep the welders electric from flowing through the truck frying something on the trucks electrical system. So... would it be ill advised to try this being basically a guinea pig project or am I just being overcautious and flux welding is a breeze even for a greenie?

I've never touched an exhaust and I put on a flowmaster super10 and put in the pipe extensions and all that jazz in 45 mins to an hour.

Welding is what I do and If I were you I wouldn't weld anything in the truck. Make it all bolt in so you can switch it back to stock or change the setup easy. Welding under the truck is hard enough to make sure you get it fully sealed let alone a novice with a flux wire. My suggestion is to do what I did I will include a few pics, you can make everything bolt in no welding even though I welded some on mine it would just cost you a extra clamp. Here's a few pics

Edit: sorry for the upside down pic... I don't get the iPhone from time to time some are right some are upside down..

Meh, didn't cost them anything in parts or materials... the catback system was installed with the truck being less than 24 hours old so it was easy to remove the stock system and the MBRP kit fitment is top quality...

They wouldn't even look at it around here for 50 bucks. 50 bucks up there is like 20 bucks here. Lol
