Exhaust leaking

Are all 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks coming out with bad exhaust leaks because i just bought one and I had been reading about this. I can't really hear an exhaust least...well if it's there it's not bad at all and was undecided if I should take it in. I dnt wanna make things worse

If you don't think you have one, then you probably don't have one.

And exhaust leak will be a loud clicking or clacking noise when you first start it up or when driving and you engine is under a load.

check the bolts on your manifolds, my 2012 was leaking bad out of the passenger side so i went with new shorty headers....decided to do the passenger side first since it would take longer with the broken bolt just to find that there was a broken bolt on the drivers side too, just wasnt leaking yet. If your heat shield is loose then thats probably your issue.....both my broken bolts were all the way back on the block on top.....good luck

Also ive heard other guys saying that the dealership was fixing theirs under warranty....which is always nice

Guys, could the clicking sound electronic? When I first start up i get the noise (sounds like right behind the driver's side front tire). It will rise or fall with RPM but it seems to fade out after just a minute or so.... Based on this thread I think its an exhaust leak but I don't know for sure. Something I can fix myself?

Sounds like a leak. Hard pressed to think of anything right there to give off an electric click.

Crawl under, look around manifold and exhaust, look for black soot.

Some exhaust leaks will seal up as the manifolds heat up and expand. Might be why it goes away. Definitely check for soot and broken bolts. Sometime I need to get into my 2011, I know I have a leak.

That's what mine does now. Used to not a leak until recently. Now I hear it every cold start

Guess until it gets real bad I'm going to leave it alone.

Exactly what mine did.

Loud as **** on start up....quieted down after about 30-45 seconds.

Broken exhaust bolt rear driver side. It was so annoying and obvious it only lasted like that for about 2 days before I took it in.

Mine is coming from passenger side. It was definitely worse over the winter. Now it's not quite as obnoxious. Drives me nuts though! I'm holding off for longtubes unless they fall completely off. Then I'll have to do something about it

Kinda of glad I found this thread (but maybe not!). I've had this issue for a while now and it drives me nuts. Issue is the 'tick' noise during a cold start and while under load with the engine cold. It will generally go away after about a minute or two. The noise is worse on cold days. Saw some of the posts and decided to investigate. Started the truck and got under it, sounds like its coming from the passenger header. Removed the manifold heat shield to look for soot and low and behold there was a broken stud and a fair amount of soot in the area. The truck is still under warranty and I'd like to take it in, however, now that I've been poking around under there I'm a bit concerned that they might try to blame the failure on me. I'm gonna call them up this week and see what they say about covering this, wish me luck!

Quick update, took the truck to dealer and they found a broken bolt and warped manifold. Replaced it all under warranty. Took 3 days total, one for diag, two for repair. Here is the parts list for the job:

Anyone have a part number for the donut gasket at the manifold to exhaust pipe connection??? I've had no luck on searches or even with google and Parts stores database....


Edit: or is this the right one..... ( I thought it was a donut nut a flat gasket on the collector on the stock manifold
