So my time has come and I have the broken manifold bolts. Now as for replacement bolts, I see guys recommend Dorman stainless kit 03309hp. But I always thought stainless was a "softer" metal and would suspect based on that I will be revisiting this issue again in the future. So WHAT hardware is the best or strongest and most proven to withstand future issues. I will be milling and reusing the stock cast manifolds most likely.

Gonna follow this a well. I'm pretty certain I have a broken stud and exhaust leak. I am due for inspection so i am probably gonna let the shop handle this one. If it was warmer and I wasn't fresh off a back surgery I'd tackle it. Had issues with my 2005 Dodge Ram Hemi and removed and installed the headers myself. That was at least 10 years ago when it was much easier for me to do that kind of work.

Mill or sand the stock manifolds flat and get a new complete set of Mopar bolts and use a Remflex gasket. It's very likely you won't have an issue again.

Purchased the remflex 6022 off of Amazon but based on their pic and one review they may not be correct in port size. Guess we shall see. Just another return back.

I'm not sure on stainless being "softer" as far as rockwell hardness but it has a higher tensile strength than grade 8 bolts do. It is also going to have better corrosion resistance to prevent weakening due to rust.

I know you already bought a different kit, but if it doesn't fit then those stainless ones could be a good alternative.

I believe that SS bolts from what I've read are definitely not as strong as a grade 8 and definitely not recommended for high torque applications. Corrosion resistance yes but not torque (I know I just created a new type of war like oil and antifreezes) lol

Exhaust manifolds are not a high torque application.

I looked it up a little before saying that, the site I saw had the tensile strength as 193ksi for stainless and around 150ksi if I remember right for grade 8. There are different types of stainless, and I'm sure you will see different standards for grade 8 depending where you look. Either way, corrosion resistance is still a plus.

6022's are the ones you want. Just be careful with them,as you can't bend/flex them, they'll break if you do,they're also dirty to handle, and will make your hands black from the graphite.

I belt-sanded my stock manifolds, used Everbuilt manifold bolts from Amazon and Fel-Pro gaskets. No issues so far, 70k miles since.

Remflex gaskets seem to be very highly recommended, already had the Fel-Pro though.

Sanding the warped ones is the key, and I didn't get mine totally flat either.

I have used srt8 bolts on 2 and arp bolts on 1 with oem gaskets each with different brand headers and haven't had any repeat issues on any of the 3. I have since heard of more people flattening stock manis but I have never done that.

Yeah I just purchased a nice used Craftsman 6x48 belt sander. Lowest grit belt I found so far was 120 grit. What did you use?

I really dont remember what grit I used. 80, maybe?

120 should be fine, it will take a bit of time on the sander to get them flat no matter the grit.

Sanding went REALLY well! I used the 120 grit and kept moving it around on the belt. The first one to hit was the center and the last was where the bolts snapped

Get yourself some Remflex 6022 gaskets, and torque them to 20 lb-ft.Start with the middle bolts and just move out with an ever widening circle for torque sequence, basically the same as every other torque sequence used
