I have the Flowmaster 40 series in my 4.7 ram but the drone when I'm on the highway is unbearable. I was wondering what muffler I could use to keep the same aggressive sound without so much drone. I wouldn't mind if it was a bit quieter either. My thoughts were maybe an 18 inch MagnaFlow or the 50 seres Flowmaster. What do you guys think?

I had a 40 series on my 4.7 and it was terrible. I ended up going with a dynopro from a local exhaust shop that still sounds like a truck but doesn't kill you on the highway...I'd think an 18 inch magnaflow would be fine

I'll be going with the 18" magnaflow. I've heard that one in person and like it. A lot of people seem to like that one, especially the ones that don't want it too loud or aggressive but want to make sure the hemi's or 4.7's presence is known!

Don't go with a flowmaster. I have a Borla Pro XS on and I love it! Sounds just too clean

18" jones performance max flow muffler on line (1/2 the cost of magna flow) and its the same muffler and it sounds good but I got a hemi. I actually think its alittle too much with the drone/resonance and think that a 22" muffler will give you that perfect tone but less drone. THis is on the hemi with dual exhaust… but i would think the since 3" exhaust you have would be comparable. I wouldn't go less than 18" as the drone would be more pronounced. I personally think that 22-24" mufflers are perfect on these trucks without too much increased drone noise.

I've got the 18" Maggie sounds good does have some drone with mds but I've gotten bored with it. Now I'm think of changing my exhaust, I've always love the flowmaster sound thinking I might go 50 hd with 2 1/2" tail pipes with 5" tips now maybe with a cutout pipe while I'm there :) everybody different when it comes to what sounds good to them. The 18" Maggie is a good mild choice!

I just installed the 18" mufflex and I love it. No drone yet after 150 miles on it.

I've had my 18" Maggie on for a month now, i like it. After adding 5" tips it made it a little louder at idle and deeper, still drone free. I had a fm 50hd muffler on my old 4.7 and it sounded badass, was pretty loud at idle and low rpms but no drone in the cabin.

I think I'm going to pick up the 18" magnaflow soon. I think magnaflow sounds loads better than flowmaster. Anyone know the inlet diameter on the single exhaust trucks? Are they the same as the duals?

Just a small explanation for those looking around

A lot of people are looking to do muffler swaps or full exhaust swaps and theyre torn between different mufflers due to "cabin drone". I started off a few months ago by going along with a muffler shop and putting on a 50hd because they said it was a retrofit muffler. Flowmaster doesn't make a retrofit muffler for these trucks , there's always more piping todo. I realized that this muffler would be perfect if I was 40 years old and wanted a nice low tone with no drone. I recently upgraded to the 40 series and removed my resignators just because I wana be a loud teenager . There is relatively no drone and I don't know why others are saying there is . I listen to my music at 15 and I hear it fine and I turn heads when I floor it. Others will argue but the unfortunate part about finding the tone for you , is that no one else will be able to give you proper imput on what tone you'll like. Just don't do what I did and settle for something a muffler shop thinks is a good idea. Mds isn't an issue with me as it stands , I notice a small rumble when it kicks in but nothing irritable. I hope this helps someone . Take care guys :)

I had magnaflows in my last truck ('06 4.7). True duals as well. I think I might go the same route on my '14 Express because I loved the sound from my last truck. Is it possible to do the same or do I have to have a X or Y pipe for the '14?
