I recently bought a 1997 3500 V10 motor is very strong unfortunately I got it from a dishonest buy here pay here with a shady, hustler for an owner. Long story short I have a ton of work to do which takes priority over an exhaust system with major leaks so my question is.
The pipes come off each manifold true dual until about half way up the right side into 2 separate cats the into a 2 in 1 out muffler (stock I'm assuming) then over rear axle and out the back.
In an effort to save money until I take care of other issues could I remove the cats and muffler run dual down each side each with glass pack turning out right before the rear wheels?
1. Will this affect power/torque?
2. I don't want it to be obnoxiously loud?

I would appreciate any help, suggestions, etc. Thank you

Yeah you can do that. Wont have a negative power affect. Sound might suck or you might love it. V10s really aren't too loud though either

I bought it specifically for towing so I don't want it loud but like you said it really doesn't seem to have much of voice for such a large motor haha!
Plus I plan on doing a complete system anyway just want to do brake and suspension overhaul first along with figuring out what is wrong with the transmission he screwed me on also.

Thank you for the input!!

Don't go too large with the replacement parts and try to put an X-pipe in it as well just so the exhaust scavenging works well.

Wouldn't a ram/cold air intake help with that?
I was only going to go 2.5 because I was worried about back pressure .

No..a CAI lets more air in, of course, you still need to keep moving the gas at the other end.

2.5" will be fine.
