I want to tackle my exhaust myself and save a few bucks. Do headers require any special installation or do they just bolt off and bolt on? Whats better pacesetters or bbk shorties, whats the differences.

Id like to upgrade my headers and add a raceland e-cutout, currently I have a 22" magnaflow dumped before the rear axle. Do I need to upgrade my cats if I upgrade my headers, or can I remove them completely and still get inspection?

Also, what is the minimum amp flux welder I can use to weld my exhaust.

I had pacesetters on my 05. They just bolt on and off. Nothing special to install. I would either keep your stock cats and open them up or get high flow ones. I took the cats off on mine and it was a pain to get it inspected in Houston. It wasn't exactly legal lets just say that lol.

Could I use a 90amp flux welder to weld my entire exhaust system?

I would like to save as much money as possible so if I can open my stock cats up and still pass inspection ill do it.

The entire goal is to install new headers, a cut out, open up my cats if its legal, and have it pass inspection.

I don't know on the welding. I always just bring mine somewhere.

You will pass inspection as long as you have cats.

The bbk Shorties are a direct bolt up to your mid pipes. If you go pacesetters get there y pipe kit.

Agreed. Everyone ive talk to says to get the Pacesetter Y pipe. Im keeping my stock cat with my pacesetters. Everyone says the stock cats are already Hiflow. With my LTs i bought:

Ypipe, 2 O2 wire extenders, 180tsat and coolant flush 75%water 25%coolant, stock mopar gaskets, grade 8 header bolts, and aeroforce gauge with air to fuel sensor. And getting my cats cut open wider.

Here is GA there isnt inspection. But i thought in states with inspection your cats cant be moved from the stock position?

And if i read right, LTs give more HP gain then shorties.

Im probably gonna go to see my exhaust guy soon to set up my install date, ill ask him about the welder.

PS Y Pipe is a good option due to the 3" piping to the Y section vs the smaller stock 2.25 piping to the Y. Then open up your stock cats to 3" to weld into the PS ORY.

The lt's give more HP and tq however it is higher in the powerband than the Shorties. Also if you are required to have an inspection or CARB laws then the lt's will not work as they do not have a CARB stamp and they move the cats from stock position.

you can use the welder just keep the temp low as to not burn thru the pipe and as for removing the cats remove them and just do what i did take the outer shield off and just weld it over the pipe looks like the cat is there and never had any problems getting it inspected.
