Hi everyone.

I'm about to purchase a used 2009 RAM 1500 Sport fully loaded and I have a question about the HEMI. Apparently, it's a HEMI because on the exterior of the truck, there is a badge for it as well as the CarProof states "8 cylinders". However, I researched a bit on Google and apparently for 2009 there were two types of V8s, there is a HEMI and another (forget the name, starts with T).

My concern is that out of all the HEMI RAM 1500s I've seen, all of the badges say "HEMI" and underneath "5.7L" except mine only says "HEMI" any idea as to why this is the case? Are there multiple HEMI engines I'm not aware of? Thanks.

If you open the hood there should be a emissions sticker that states the engine size.
345 CID or 5.7L is the Hemi. The other engine is a 287 or 4.7 V8.

Also, the engine cover itself (large plastic piece) should clearly read HEMI 5.7.
Do not worry about the badging on the fenders.

I was so excited to test drive it, that I completely forgot to open the hood and check the engine. Is the 5.7L the ONLY engine size from HEMI for 2009? The 5.7L also produces 390 HP is that correct? I just hope that it's not the 4.7 V8 and the previous owner stamped the "HEMI" badge just for jokes :(

Run the VIN find out for sure if it has the engine you want.

I have the CarProof report, but it only states "8 cylinders", it does not even say that it's the Sport trim.

The 5.7 is the only Hemi offered in a 2009 Ram.
Yes, they are rated at 390 HP.

Early 2009 Ram badges only said "Hemi", not "Hemi 5.7L".

you say its listed as a sport. Did it have color matched bumper, door handles, and mirrors? also on the inside did it have the leather dash with stitching?

pop the hood. also, the early 2009's said Hemi on the side. 5.7L hemi is the only hemi offered in Ram trucks, 2009 - 2012 were rated at 390 hp and 407 lb/ft of torque. 2013 and older it went up to 395 hp for the 5.7L hemi.

I also almost certain that sports only pack a hemi.

I'm pretty sure all the Rams said HEMI 5.7L. the HEMI only badge was for the cars. If it is a sport tho it should be a 5.7L.. who knows, 09 was when it was a Dodge anyways hahaha

pop the hood man let us know, you got me all anxious now!

Well, loosely defined as a HEMI.

Pentaroof head is more like it.

True story. HEMI is in fact a very poor design for emissions and performance in todays technologically advanced motors. I'm surprised Dodge "brought it back". but contrary to the name the heads are not really hemispherical like they were back in the day. They should have just picked a new name for the motor to be honest. It was a good marketing scheme back around 2004 when it came out, but they should of changed the name as the new generations were made..
