Fake HEMI or Real?

The 4.7 has 8 plugs on top and then 8 in the normal spot....

is the plastic engine cover on it? That will tell you 4.7 Magnum or 5.7 Hemi.....

you say its listed as a sport. Did it have color matched bumper, door handles, and mirrors? also on the inside did it have the leather dash with stitching?

Yes, it's silver with matching grill/bumper, door handles and mirrors. The inside dash is leather as well, but it might be fake? Some leather-lookalikes are like that.

EDIT: the door handles are NOT chrome like the one in this picture. The mirrors are also NOT black like this one.

Also thats not a sport. mirors are not color matched. looks like an SLT or maybe a bighorn with those mirrors?

Ah. gotcha. either way i think you can mod the magnum the same you can as the Hemi. its just displacement and your not missing anything if its not a hemi. the term Hemi is all hype. a V8 is a V8 these days, and Dodge is a bit behind the game if you ask me compared to the LS and the Coyote motors..

Thanks for the support - guess I will know forsure soon enough! Does the HEMI have a bit of lag, I mean when you're cruising and you step on the gas, do you feel as if it takes about a second for it to rev up and accelerate? I test drove 3 different HEMIs and 2 of them felt like this, while the third felt a bit faster in acceleration - even though the engine made a bit of a hissing noise, sort of like it was turbocharged.

Yeah the lag your feeling is the transmission. These trucks are notorious for defining the term "slush box" and paired with MDS it will feel delayed. If your driving around with your foot in it all the time its going to feel unpredictable and very shifty. This is not the motor tho. If you want to feel the potential of these motors I suggest taking a drive in a manual charger or challenger, but your not going to get the direct feel with this truck unless you mod it. However, once your torque converter locks up and you catch the rev right, hold on cause it will kick the rear end loose.

True story. HEMI is in fact a very poor design for emissions and performance in todays technologically advanced motors. I'm surprised Dodge "brought it back". but contrary to the name the heads are not really hemispherical like they were back in the day. They should have just picked a new name for the motor to be honest. It was a good marketing scheme back around 2004 when it came out, but they should of changed the name as the new generations were made..

True, but honestly the "HEMI" label is what's selling a lot of Dodge vehicles. It's just because consumers associated "HEMI" with HP and speed. If they named the engine something else, i don't tHink they would have been successful with their sales. In my opinion, Ford's F150 "Ecoboost" doesn't even have a higher status and it has a turbo setup on a 6 cylinder engine. It's just like when people spend $200.00 + for a pair of "Jordans". Brand name goes a long way in marketing.

Could have just taken the oem badge off and put just a HEMI badge on..

But that is not a sport. Sports come with painted mirrors and door handle unless the put those stupid covers on them.

I have an 09' sport with a hemi and JUST HEMI badge. it was manufactured in april 15th 2009 at the warren plant. Back in 2009 there where 3 models a base model, slt, and laramie. On the SLT model there where sub packages that are "now as we know it on the ram website" Sport, Sport premium( everything the Sport had plus alpine sound, dual ac climate control and security group with remote start). There was the TRX4 or TRX non 4x4 and the the Big Horn or in texas (Lone Star edition)

Later on in the years they now have them separate by base model, slt, big horn, outdoorsman, sport, laramie, and laramie limited which is a sport model but with a chrome grill.

And in 09' the Sport has a chrome grill instead of a color matched grill. After 09' they went back to color matched.

I have a 09' Sport and have done countless digging on this before I purchased my ram

Not all of them have remote start. Mine 09 doesn't although the previous owner added a aftermarket one.

Good info though. Love my 09

To be honest I dont even know what my badge looks like. Need to look. lol

My 2010 SLT doesn't have remote start either. Kind of bugged me when I found out later it is included in other packages.

Hmm this makes things complicated now...you're saying there was no "Sport" model back in 2009? I've seen 09s sport with colour matched grills only.

He's spot on. I started shopping in 2009 for my Ram and bought a 2010. My window sticker on my 2010 said "SLT Sport". 09 Sports came with chrome grills only as far as I've seen.
