I picked up this 2016 rebel a few weeks back and have loved it so far. I’ve been pretty indecisive on keeping the fenders that came with it ( looked to be bushwhackers).

I’ve removed one and there’s paint damage underneath. I’m thinking of going to an oem style fender. My main question is would the oem fender conceal the paint damage caused by this fenders or will I need to get some touch up paint work. Thanks in advance!

Would be helpful to know where the paint damage is at.

I'm guessing that you're referring to removing the fender flares, it would be odd to drive a truck with no fenders, maybe even illegal in most areas.

If your truck is a driveway princess and your city roadways are always clear of pebbles or stones, it might be OK without the fender flares.

I would think the fender flares protect the fenders from stone chips more on gravel or rural roads but regardless of where you drive, there's crap everywhere on the road, AFAIK. LOL

I live in the country and occasionally drive on a few rural goat paths. I wouldn't own a truck without fender flares.

YMMV

The OEM fender flares look a lot better than those, but that is a personal opinion. As to whether the OEM flares will cover the paint damage, that depends on where the damage is and what the width difference in the two flares are.

If you do not like the your current Fender Flares

Do you live OFF Highway, there are a load of Graded Gravel Roads in the Arizona Desert, you may need the Flares

Think about getting your Fenders Wrapped, IF you stay on Paved Roads

Depending on what the damage is, wrapping the fender might be like nuking a burrito for 5 minutes in the microwave

Changes are OEM flares will not go up as far as those pocket styles you have now, so if the damage is caused by the edges rubbing OEMs won't hide it

If the damage is actual rust coming from the very edge of the wheel wells, the only thing that will fix that is cut it out well past the rust, weld in patch panels and repaint it

I have the Bushwhackers flares & have noticed some paint damage where the top edge meets the fender.
They are as tight as they can be but there are not enough screws to keep them from rubbing.
I’m not really liking the rivet look anymore, looking into having them covered -body putty/filler, then painted again.
I have a friend who owns a body shop & while he doesn’t work for free always takes care of me. I would remove them & have him buff out the fender damage, you can clearly see the marks but hasn’t gone thru all the paint.
I have seen some clear tape/wrap that can applied where the edge meets the fender, I’m going to try this & maybe add some screws to reduce the rubbing.
