OK so I keep hearing 4wd auto,lock, low... I got 3 options on mine, 2wd, 4low,4lock...whats 4wd auto?

Can we switch to 4wd on the fly or should you do so from park?

While playing with the steering wheel controls (gear-+) is there a way to get the freaking truck to pick up the gears automatically again or you do have to put it in park to reset it?

I'm sure there are more retarded questions to come.

Thanks.

Not all trucks have the 4wd auto, some don't.

Yes you can shift into 4wd lock on the fly. from my owner's manual. "Shifting between 2H and 4H can be made with the vehicle stopped or in motion. If the vehicle is in motion, shifts can be made up to 55 mph (88 km/h). With the vehicle in motion, the transfer case will engage/ disengage faster if you momentarily release the accelerator pedal after completing the shift. Apply a constant force when shifting the transfer case lever."

The gear +/- only limits the highest gear allowed. it will shift normally. "Electronic Range Select (ERS) Operation — Eight-Speed Transmission The Electronic Range Select (ERS) shift control allows the driver to limit the highest available gear when the transmission is in DRIVE. For example, if you set the transmission gear limit to 4 (fourth gear), the transmission will not shift above fourth gear (except to prevent engine overspeed), but will shift through the lower gears normally. You can switch between DRIVE and ERS mode at any vehicle speed. When the transmission gear selector is in DRIVE, the transmission will operate automatically, shifting between all available gears. Tapping the GEARswitch (on the steering wheel) will activate ERS mode, display the current gear in the instrument cluster, and set that gear as the top available gear. Once in ERS mode, tapping the GEAR- or GEAR+ switch will change the top available gear."

You hold the + key until D shows up in the indicator.

The only 4WD shift position that is special is 4WD low. You should be stopped or moving slow with the transmission in neutral for best results.

I got a very steep driveway and have used the 4wd low option 2 times. I've put the car on park to make the switch. Thanks for the advice.

I have the straight back window without the sliding middle piece. I want to change it to the sliding one. How does the defrost work on these trucks? Is it a blower like the front windshield?

Far as I know, the rear defrost is thin wires that heat the glass. Don't have on my 16, yet the window stays clear. I do have the rear sliding window. Rarely use it.

Sounds like you have a tradesman or a express. The 4wd as other have said is just 3 options 2wd 4h 4lo. Witch actually is the stronger transfer case. The auto case has clutches in it. Some trucks have a manual lever for the 4wd and others will have the dial(on the 6spd trucks) or the push button (8 speed trucks). The sliding window and defrost is a higher end model option although you probably can get a manual siding window for your truck as I think some of The regular cabs came with.

Yes, I have an express with the 3.92 axle ratio, lsd, 5.7l Hemi, 32gal tank, crew cab. I got the 8spd which is just the buttons for 4wd options. I do have a button for a rear defrost and when I press it, it does clear up the glass but I def do not have the wires... Maybe it's just there for ornamental reasons and its just clearing up by itself? I'm def replacing the rear window with the manual one

Got another question... When I went outside to check if I had the wires on the back window, I noticed pull tabs on the back of the rear seats... Do they fold down?

4WD Auto is available on some trucks and basically will shift the truck into 4WD HI / 4WD Lock from 2WD if selected and the rear wheels start to slip on icy or snow surfaces. It comes in handy when running on the highway and there are spots that you have to traverse that may still be frozen.

You can shift to 4WD Lock / 4WD HI while on the move as stated above.

There is a way to get the truck to go get out of manual mode and back to full automatic mode by pushing and holding down the + button. As long as the truck is in manual mode, it will only shift up to the gear selected.

You may be confusing the defrost button for your side view mirror defrost. I know because I also mistaken it for the same reasons at first. Is the defrost button on your heat setting control knob? If so that’s for the side mirrors

When I asked about the rear window defrost, the saleman told me , here it is, and he reached up and opened the rear sliding window......I told him I am not doing that in a snow or rain storm.

Didn't buy from him...................
