I've been thinking about removing the black vinyl between the windows on the doors. And like the title says, I finally did it!

I started with the passenger side in case I messed something up I wouldn't have to look at it as often. The first one took a long time. Hours! Why? I didn't have an extension cord long enough to use the heat gun I bought. It honestly took well over an hour to remove it off the right front door. And it left behind all the adhesive too. And removing the adhesive took about another hour! After that mess, I figured i must go buy a longer cord than the one i have. In between banging my head against the wall for being so dumb and not getting one before hand, I realized I could use my garage door opener outlet that was right above my truck. The length of the heat gun cord was perfect! The remaining 3 pieces of vinyl took about 30mins, total! The vinyl came off all in one piece with the adhesive along with it. Oh and that 30mins includes removing and re-installing the weather stripping and spraying some cleaner and wax where the vinyl used to be.

If you are going to remove the black vinyl from your Ram, I highly recommend using a heat gun. I picked mine up for $9 at Harbor Freight. I probably will not use it more than a couple of times a year, but whatever those jobs maybe, it'll surely make them easier!

Here's a couple pics of the before and after. Not the greatest after pic, but it shows the finished look.

I'm divided on the look, I like it without on your truck, but I have a 2016 Express bright white without it from the factory and have been thinking it may look better with the vinyl.

I actually did the black vinyl on my white Express and I like it. I think it looks good with the tinted windows. It's funny us guys that don't have it want and the guys that do have don't want it. It looks good either way. It's just a matter of preference.

Are you able to buy the vinyl to add it?

I actually think quad cabs look better with the vinyl bc without makes the back window look kinda small. But I also think lighter colored crew cabs look bad ass with the vinyl as well. But that's just my opinion. Regardless it still looks nice

We always want what we don't have!
I knew there were some people out there that prefer the look of it. So I was careful in my wording when I wrote about removing it as to not start an online battle with anyone.

Yes you can buy it from the dealer. I tried the aftermarket the first time and it fit horrible. I ended up buying the factory ones and they fit great. They run around 17 to 18 dollars a piece.

I agree 100% I actually like the look both ways. It's all up to the owner's preference there is no right or wrong it's whatever you like.

I like the look of the vinyl, but dont like that it wrinkles and peels off over time. I ended up taking it off of my 2011 crew cab for this reason, and its already starting to wrinkle on my 2015 as well...I'm sure I will end up removing it on this truck also.

I like it on my 16 maximum steel crew cab. Gives me a place to close the door and not touch the paint after it is clean. Wife knows to shut it like that too lol
