I've been thinking about removing the black vinyl between the windows on the doors. And like the title says, I finally did it!
I started with the passenger side in case I messed something up I wouldn't have to look at it as often. The first one took a long time. Hours! Why? I didn't have an extension cord long enough to use the heat gun I bought. It honestly took well over an hour to remove it off the right front door. And it left behind all the adhesive too. And removing the adhesive took about another hour! After that mess, I figured i must go buy a longer cord than the one i have. In between banging my head against the wall for being so dumb and not getting one before hand, I realized I could use my garage door opener outlet that was right above my truck. The length of the heat gun cord was perfect! The remaining 3 pieces of vinyl took about 30mins, total! The vinyl came off all in one piece with the adhesive along with it. Oh and that 30mins includes removing and re-installing the weather stripping and spraying some cleaner and wax where the vinyl used to be.
If you are going to remove the black vinyl from your Ram, I highly recommend using a heat gun. I picked mine up for $9 at Harbor Freight. I probably will not use it more than a couple of times a year, but whatever those jobs maybe, it'll surely make them easier!
Here's a couple pics of the before and after. Not the greatest after pic, but it shows the finished look.
