First, I NEVER have the dealer change my oil... they grossly overcharge. My mechanic does it for half the price for years.

OK, question:
Just when do you change the oil?
At 5K or 10K miles
I've read where it should be change every 3 months on most cars? Are Ram trucks any different.

I bought my 2014 Ram last year with a few miles above 50K, now it's at 54K miles. The oil was changed when I bought the truck. I haven't changed the oil yet thinking I should do it at 5K miles like I did for my Corvettes which was usually about 1-2 years since I didn't put a lot of mileage on them.

Oh and another tip. Take a large ziplock bag and put it around the oil filter, loosen the filter and let the oil drain into the bag before fully removing filter.

This will save you a big mess of oil you’d have to clean up after

what a great idea! I've been experimenting with an "oil sliding board" to keep my steering rack clean. I will try this next time. Thanks for that!

I used the plastic bag method and it worked great. Actually had no mess at all.
