Did the first oil change on the 5.7L at 4600 miles by myself over the weekend. Didn’t want to wait any longer with the weather. Didn’t need to jack up the truck. Oil drain plug was very easy to get to. The oil filer was a different story. The locating was kinda tight to get the filter out. Most of the oil from the filter drained all over the cross member and sway bar. I had to use an oil filter wrench to get it off. No big deal.
I was at Walmart and they didn’t have any Wix oil filters. They had Mopar and Fram TG but decided to go with the Mobil1 M1-113A $10. I also picked up 2, 5 quarts jugs of 5w20 Quaker State Ultimate Durability. $20 each. I know its not full synthetic like the $40 5qrt jug of Royal Purple. The truck took 7.25 quarts and had half a jug left for the next change. Also had to get a 10qrt oil catch basin for $9.
Noticed right away difference how smooth the engine became. Exhaust sounded different too. I reset the 40% maintenance minder. Total cost $50 for oil change and $9 oil catch basin.
