So got engine back together ,she started right up ,but sputtered a bit and rough idle. All ticking and exhaust leaks noise gone , timing was set right in the money, could this be from not having a tune in it yet disabling the MDS in the com? Oh yeah 2013 1500 5.7

If it's an aftermarket non-mds cam, good chance it's the tune,or lack there of.

Could you rephrase this, or clarify? I'm not sure what this means.

No tune it it yet, but DID disable the MDS?

Or no tune it it yet but DID NOT disable the MDS?

You installed both non-MDS OEM Mopar lifters and a non-MDS OEM Mopar camshaft? Or something else?

I installed non MDs cam and lifters and plugged plugs after removing the MDs solenoids, after reinstalling and assembly process vehicle started but rough idle, I have not programmed a tune yet or disabled the MDs in the pcm. Yet, I’m having issues updating the tuner I bought

It is oem parts but yes non MDs cam and lifters other than the rough idle the engine sounded right and right not tics to speak of or knocks of any sort just that rough idle is all

It'll still need a tune,as the 6 speed car cams are a bit more aggressive then the mds automatic cam. Which non-mds cam did you go with, the 5.7 or 6.4 cam?

The 5.7 kept it close to original except the non MDs parts

The "first start" does not require a tune to disable the MDS. It will run fine until it thinks it's time to initiate the MDS and that function doesn't happen until normal operating temp and light load, steady RPM such as cruising down the highway. MDS will never try to engage while idling. You are not helping us understand which camshaft you installed. Was it for a car, truck or a different year model?
I have a 2013 5.7, 8 speed ZF transmission and used the Mopar 5.7 VVT, non MDS cam for the 2500 series truck. Slightly lower HP rating, not a dual profile cam like the original MDS cam, but the torque curve starts slightly lower. I did not add a custom tune but did use a Superchip's handheld tuner to disable the MDS and change fan control temps. I am also using the 93 Octane tune from the handheld tuner. I tried the "tow" tune but it really didn't help much.

Mopar cam #53022263AF is the oem grind cam for the 5.7 with MDS in a 1500 series truck. Cam #53022314AD is the Mopar oem grind, non-MDS cam with VVT for the 2500 series Ram with the 5.7. The factory mds cam has a dual profile that has slightly less lift for the mds cylinders. The non-mds cam is a single profile cam. It sounds like you installed the cam for the 2500 series truck which is the cam I used with all 16 non-mds lifters. It seems to work great and no custom tune needed. The slight sputtering at start up was likely just lifters pumping up and air in the fuel lines.
